Issue with how you move pieces

Sort:

I use to click and then click  again where i want to move, to move pieces. This is in contrast to clicking, holding down and dragging, then releasing.

The issue here is that if a piece happens to be selected, I can't select a new piece without unselecting the already selected piece. This doesn't only cost another click, but easily a lot of confusion. I want to, if a piece is selected, to only click the new piece I want to select.

Another issue at this site is that the colour of the selected piece is the same as the colour used to mark last moved piece. This can be very confusing.

Is this possible to do anything with? Thanks in advance.

Only click on a piece when you know you are going to move it.

Says the guy that doesn't play blitz or lightening.

To clarify. If you play blitz, you often are in positions with 10 or 20 seconds left, and maybe a mate in 5 moves, or the opponent also has about same amount of time left. Clicking wrong piece in this situation can easily cost you the game.

In lightening, for example time control 1 0, it's so fast that just a second lost can be very expensive, and a misclick on this site has often costed me like 5.

Play a proper time control then.

Why are you even commenting in this thread? You neither have anything to contribute, any understanding of the issue and you seem like someone that thinks yourself really superior. Too bad the chess community is filled up with smart-asses like you who think they know it all.

Btw, why don't you ask Magnus Carlsen to stop playing unproper time controls?

i offered you a solution to your problem without knowing what time control you play because you failed to mention it.

I only added my flippant comment after you said " Says the guy that doesn't play blitz or lightening".

That sounds to me the comment of someone who thinks they are superior, ie you.

Magnus tells me he has no problem with his mouse.

Well I come from other site, and there this wasn't a problem. I'm really just asking if the same configuration might be possible here, not if there is a work-around that doesn't involve the same configuration. I didn't fail not mentioning any time control. I mentioned my problem very clearly and asked if this could be worked out. Most chess players can enjoy a wide variety of games. Online, I mostly only play fast games, and my impression is that that applies to most players.

I agree, my comment might have come off like you describe it and I could have been nicer about it. You just came off as someone having no understanding of the issue.

One could argue about how chess should be played, and online it's really a whole different thing. In real life, there is no such thing as pre selecting a piece and having the pointer ready on the square you want to move, but that's the reality of internet chess, and I really enjoy these super fast games. We're all different. So far my impression here is that you can't move as fast as on other chess sites. Maybe that's good, maybe not. But I like fast action online, and leave the slower games to real life. I can adapt if this site doesn't give same possibility as the other.

You can move pieces both ways in Live Chess - click, hold & drag, or click on the piece and then click on where you want to move it.

With the click & drag approach, if you want to move another piece, just drop the piece you've already selected onto an invalid square or somewhere outside the chess board, and the system will "release" that piece and you can select another one.

I suspect it's just a matter of acclimatising to the options that are available in Live Chess.

That lagomorph guy is just a know-it-all troll, apparently he got banned from his waifu sub redit so he's gotta take his frustration out here.  The way to deal with guys like that is to just state the obvious and call them out.  "Only click on a piece when you know you are going to move it." Obviously I'm only going to click on a piece when i'm about to move it you fking idiot, I'm talking about those times when I accidentally click on it, or when I see a better move after I clicked on it...  Nice to know you're friends with Magnus though, really makes you an authority on the help-support forum.

"Magnus tells me he has no problem with his mouse." pretentious

What you just said was basically the chess equivalent of fight me IRL.  Man there is no hope for you... if only you had someone like Magnus around to tell you how he clicks mouse buttons.  GL on getting unbanned on that waifu sub reddit, I recommend using one of your alt accounts that you only keep around to farm karma to plead your case.
