Latest version of Firefox won't let me play chess!!!

A few days ago, I updated Mozilla Firefox to the latest version, and since then I cannot get my online games to come up.  I can now only play using Internet Explorer, but I find it so much more cumbersome than using Firefox.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  More important, has anyone found a solution to the problem?

I've found that the later versions of FireFox work less well, for me, than the earlier ones.

I uninstalled FireFox, installed version 3.6 and turned updates for the browser to off. Problem solved.

The management here recommends using Google Chrome, although I notice a lot of members also recommend Firefox, and hardly anyone recommends IE at least from what relatively few comments i read.

Using outdated versions of any browser is a security risk, many browser updates are security-related. If you insist on doing so make sure you're using a primo anti-virus program (such as AVG, Avast or Avira for instance - all 3 have perfectly acceptable freeware versions) and I also recommend you use Zone Alarm's free firewall which is way better than Windows firewall, or anyone else's for that matter.

What version are you actually on? Are you on the beta path?

Chrome works fine with me...

Thanks for all the good suggestions and comments.  Such varied opinions, it's going to be a difficult choice.  I guess perhaps I'll continue in Internet Explorer until it too gives me problems, which I'm sure it will.

@DeepGreene ... The version I'm now using is Firefox 3.6.23

I'm using Firefox 7.0.1 and I have absolutely NO problems at all with chess.com.

I guess all the people who state that so-and-so browser/version works fine for them don't grasp the concept of other people not using their identical hardware, software and ISP. But I guess it's nice to know that other people aren't having the same problem as dillydream...maybe...possibly...perhaps...probably not on second thought.

@Tolchess - A few days after starting this thread, I tried Firefox again.  The problem has simply gone away.  You might find that the same has happened for you?

Javan64

I just loooove browser software, don't you?

That isn't the latest version. Possibly the latest 3.x version but 8.x is the current version; 8.0 to be exact. I haven't had any issues with it or the beta version I have on my other machine.

Javan64

Yup, Mozilla bumped my FF from 7.0.1 to 8.0.  It works just fine, Reuben.

Hi guys.

Those of you that firefox didn't work, were you using McAffe for your security? Were you on a PC?

I am using the newest version 8.0 Firefox on my PC.

BUT,

I also been using McAfee Security and before I updated Firefox asked me if it was Okay do turn off the McAfee site advisor since that portion of the program is not acceptable with the Newest 8.0.

McAfee tried to make the Firefox run and I even gave McAfee access to my computer and they watched how their program reacted they tried to place chess.com on their accepted list withing their program. It worked for several minutes and then it failed again.

So firefox 8.0 with the McAfee site advisor turned off works fine on my PC.

I loathe McAfee!  The anti-virus/security software I run is ESET; it's great.

Have you tried to play against the computer on chess.com? I just get a white screen in Firefox 7.
