I was enjoying going through the new lessons on the iOS app. Suddenly today I can't use them. The error is "no network". I am definitely online, and get the same error whether on wifi or mobile. Please help!

Is this just happening when you try to do lessons or when you try to use other features of the app?

Same problem. I can't connect to my account... I can just use it without connecting. I tried reinstalling the app or changing the password but the problem is still here. I'm on iPhone. Thanks!

The problem have been fixed. I'm not sure this is how it worked but : I reinstalled the app from my computer and then by going in setting-> chess-> activate data

I'm am having the same issues with only the iphone app.  The new issues I have been having include the following:

1. Connection seems to be very inconsistant.  Sometimes when refreshing the games the spinning chess board icon (refresh) gets stuck as if it cant find server or something.

2. When I go to make a move on a daily chess game it now often gives an error message and I have to try and resubmit the move multiple times until it registers the move.

3. Many times when trying a lesson on the app I get the "No Network" error message

4. Tactics - sometimes the tactics will not pull up a new puzzle

5. Videos - similar problems with videos being accessed very inconsistantly

Playing against the computer doesnt seem to be affected.  These issues seem to have started around last Friday 6/12 or maybe Saturday 6/13.

This is exactly what has been happening to me.  I cannot add anything to this list.  Please help!!!

I have some more details regarding this issue.  I noticed that the problem seemed to happen mainly when I was at home and so I tried turning off the wifi on my iphone and the app now funtions properly.

For some reason the app works perfectly fine when connected through cellular network but terribly inconsistant when connected via wifi (see above).  I have ATT uverse internet at home and have not had a chance to test the connection with a different wifi source to find out if the problem is connection via wifi in general or if there is something specific to ATT Uverse wifi connectivity (ie security issues or something).

If your (chess.com) IT guys can shed some light it would be appreciated because leaving wifi connection turned off is going to crush my data useage.

I've reported this to the iOS developers. So this only happens when connected to wifi, or do you notice issues when switching between wifi and cellular data?

jbor79

The problem only happens for me when connected to wifi. If I stay connected to wifi the problem persists. Only moments after I go into settings and turn wifi off, and the phone switches to cellular data, the app begins to work perfectly.

Something else that might or might not be useful is that tonight I was connected to wifi and tried to go to chess.com (actual website not app) and received an error message saying server not found. So this issue might actually not necessarily be an app issue but a problem with communication between wifi and the server?

Edit- I just turned wifi on my phone again, closed the safari internet browser and was able to replicate the server not found problem when trying to access chess.com. I also tried accessing both the app and chess.com from my iPad and have the same problems (also connected to ATT Uverse through wifi).

I seem to have the same problem as jbor79.

I have ATT Uverse as well.  This is not an app only problem.  It happens on my desktop too.  If get off my wifi everything works fine, the website on safari and the app.  If I get on wifi, nothing works, whether on my phone or computer.  I tried on chrome, explorer, firefox, and safari... no difference.

To be specific, the first time I try to get on the website (not the app), it gives a "server not found" error, then I reload and get a text only version of the website, then I reload again and the website loads.  However, as I navigate through the website I lose it again, seemingly randonmly, and have to repeat previous steps.  For example, had to reload website 3 times just to post on this thread.

On the app I just get a "no network" prompt, when I hit ok it just keeps coming back.

This started happening about 2 months ago for me.  Hope this is enough info to help figure it out.
