mobile broadband - lost connection

Hey there, I was wondering if anybody might have some tips for stabilizing a mobile broadband connection?

I'm dropping games like it's happy hour these days and it's beginning to get on my nerves, especially because the connection has a habit of choking in the games I find the most interesting, for instance on the rare occasions when I get to have a go with Najdorff variations (rare in my case; most players opt for the 2.Bc4 variation)

Obviously this is not only a really strange coincidence, but it's also quite frustrating as I'd really like to lose those games like a man.

In many a game in general, it would appear that the connection changes from 3g to 2g and back again, causing the connection to choke for approx. 12-25 seconds (sometimes the connection simply shuts down, but this is a little bit more rare). The twelve second drops, although not especially comfortable, I can live with, but when the timeout exceeds 25 sec, I come back and... Yep, you guessed it; the server has determined that I've abandoned the game.

I've yet to receive a warning for bad form, but I suspect it's in the post, the idea of which I definetely don't like.

Any usefull advice or tech tip will be awarded with plenty trophies and public appraisal, I assure you.

Thanks. :)

"Stabilise"??

The problem is with the wireless BB supplier you are using.  If you don't want connection impairment then subscribe with a more reliable telecom company that has the network and equipment that does not cause your mobile connection to intermittently fail for whatever reason, be it poor/marginal signal coverage in your area or excess traffic on the network or for some other reason.  You should also make sure you have the latest hardware for your wireless connection.

Not sure about the 25 second thing.  I have had quite a few instances where the BB connection was lost and it took maybe 45 secs to a minute or more to re-connect but the game was not aborted  by the server.  It's frustrating though.

Yeah, that's another thing, I found quite strange; I've had opponents who'd lose connection for approx. 1 min only to rejoin, no problem.

Hardware wise, I think I'm allright. I just bought a new notebook the other day and the USB device is about 1 month old - all software updated 2-3 days ago.
Funny thing; i switched from firefox to chrome as a friend of mine told me that might help. So far I've only played one game after switching, which in turn went smooth w. no hickups. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but hey...  (edit: It didn't after all, it was merely a coincidence)

Another thing I'll be trying out shortly is http://www.gameops.net/2010/09/boost-your-3g-broadband-signal-with.html - not only because of the signal enhancement, but it does look rather intimidating, dunnit? ;D

As far as service provider goes, I'll be looking into other vendors in the near future. Getting a DSL line is not an option where I live. It's an old house and the landlord is rather against the idea of setting up anything that the Amish would be against. Don't ask.

Thanks for your input. :)
