Nationality Filter

The company I work for publicly is engaged in boycott of a couple of countries. I dont want to be found with a chess record of playing these companies incase it can be seen as breaking the embargo in any upcoming cases. Can i apply a filter to searches to avoid being matched with particular nationalities to avoid being punished for aborting said matches? I wouldnt ask if it wasnt extremely sensitive and puts both my job and my chess passion at risk.
thank you

Your only option is not to play at work. The site isn't likely to add any filters by actual or self chosen country. The abort option is based on a percentage of recently completed games, regardless of the reason for the abort.

Oh theres no playing at work. Its incase i need to declare any contact with someone from that nation. From their point of view its about not giving them ammunition for litigation.

What about aborting, does it get aito flagged?

Pretty confident there's not going to be any option like that added.

If you abort too often as a percentage of completed games you'll lose the ability to abort

I can block them? Who?

you can block individual players. its not practical. I recommend maybe playing lichess where u dont actually know which nationality ur playing unless u visit their profile.
i recommend making an alternate ches account so that u can play freely without worrying ur company finding out. Another option: ask one of ur friends to create an account so that u can play, if asked by ur company, tell its ur friends account and that ur actual account has no connection with those specific nationalities.

TBH these are ways to go around the problem instead of a solution.

When looking through the forums I noticed a lot of other people asking for the same feature for various reasons, mostly in reviewing old games where they can only remember the nationality of the person of a specific game and not their name. I'll keep asking the site to add the feature.

I can't see that playing chess online with a person you don't personally know is 'breaking an embargo'. (as long as it is limited to the game)

Its my family's business and we're up against some real heavy hitters, whatever they can use to sway they'll use to sway. Im on the spectrum too which makes worrying about something a lot more intense.

I'll tell u what my guy, ur passion for chess seems to surpass a lot of things. So, if ur really willing to play chess even in those circumstances, i have one very good idea u can try. Do the following:

Play (left side of ur page) > Play Online Custom (below play option below time control)> Open Challenges (The second subheading on the top)

Here you can see which nationality challenges you and avoid the necessary ones and accept the good ones. Hope this helps!

Yes it's asked a lot but blocking based on the assumed nationality doesn't align with the site's general philosophy (as I understand it) so that's why I'm very certain it's not a feature that will ever be available.

I mean, ur opposing party can find out if any chess.com user sends u a dm telling their actual nationality (definetely not talking about this scottish american crossbreed guy). They can also persoannly dm ur opponents just to find out their nationality, so tbh playing in chess.com is still risky if u have t worry that much.

Also, the interantional flag, they can be from anywhere, so would play them?

to be fair, the filter for nationality is not a possibility, but what about a proximity pairing system. You can either go internation or select a distance of many slabs that u want to play against. so if ur hated nationality is india and ur in america, you can set like a decent amount of longitudes/ latitudes accordingly.

To me, that doesnt seem like a bad idea. Let's be real here, chess rules are not gonna change, it will always be pony moves L shape, and bishop go diagonal (so that they cant reach adjacent children) and king is a lazy beanbag that can only roll over one square. So why not upgrade the website rather than bringing out whatever the f atomic chess is, that is a diabolical game mode btw. More features in the website and better user experience can make everything soo much easier.

ur just a mod, not requesting u to do any of this (cuz i know u cant), but i think this feautre can overcome that "general philosophy" of chess.com that decided to make russian flag gray. (because u think the 13 year old prodigies in russia participate in the army??? idk).

That'd work really well, tbh id love that for just controlling the time zone so im playing someone at the same time as me, on the same amount of sleep as me lol

Sounds more like a cult than a family business.

Sleep handicaps real you useless chimer, find something helpful to say or dont say anything at all.
