Playing versus the computer has changed

Just my luck! I have played here for for free for years (since 2011). Only yesterday I decided to buy a membership (1 yr prepay) But I only play chess960  and 90% of the time I play against the computer. But the games must be rated so I can tell if I'm improving. So now I find out I can't play rated games against bots unless I follow the clever advice of  GM-chess-player............"You can go to your archive, and look for the games that you played against the bots. Simply click on they're username, and challenge them to a rated game. "   But how long till that function is gone too? I am going to try to cancel my new membership and get my money back. Does anyone know of another site where you can play rated 960 games with a decent bot like Komodo?

Also: Today I was playing a bot a 30 min game and the bot made 7 moves and then let it's clock run down from 25 min to 0! Any body else experience this?

This is horrible.

I think this point is related: I cannot see how to 'undo' a move against these new Computer AI bot games. I used to be able to play one, see what I did wrong, and go back two or three moves to re-learn but stay in the game!  HAS THIS BEEN REMOVED TOO!

If so, I am outta here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but one of chess dot com's competitors, Li chess, also doesn't allow rated play against computer. Same reason given - to prevent people artificially inflating their ratings. Too bad for the few of I guess, who play genuine rated games largely or exclusively against bots. I guess our numbers aren't relevant to the decision makers behind these sites. For example chess dot com staff haven't even bothered to publicly announce (as far as I can see) that they're slowly retiring rated live chess against bots.

I kind of get the feeling that soon we will not be able to play rated games against bots on any chess site at all. We may have to look for actual chess programs to do that, like say LucasChess.

Commenting for this to gain traction because I had the same problem.

You can still use time control (though no custom time control) by selecting the custom setting after selecting a computer.

I wish it was still the same menu as before though...

You just helped me solve the problem I've been trying to solve for days. Wanted to train 10 min games against a computer, but could find  the right buttons to pres. Thank you!

These games against the bots aren't archived either, so you can't revisit an interesting position you were in yesterday or whatever. I hate I finally spent the money for a diamond membership right when the only thing I liked to play disappeared. Just my luck.

You can still play rated Live Chess games against the Komodo bots. From 1 till level 24. These games are archived also... see my timeline for instance. Yes, they don't have fancy faces and personalities, but those are pretty much meaningless. We know that all the BOTs are only the Komodo engine with slightly tweaked parameters, so why not just play Komodo itself?

But if they take THAT away too, then I'll probably move on. We'll see.

Where do you find the old Komodo bots please?

Scroll all the way down in the bots section, you'll see an engine, click, slide to choose the engine level

The "Engine" available at the very bottom of the "Play computer" section only allows unrated, practice games. To play rated games against the Komodo bots, you need to click "challenge" on the hovercard that pops up when you click their name in your previous games archive, if you've already played them. If you haven't, then you need to click "challenge" on their individual pages. So you'll need to bookmark the pages of Komodo1 to Komodo24 (or whatever ones you prefer), visit their page directly, click challenge and set "rated", set time control and play. Once you play a game, then it will show up in your played games archive, and then you can simply click the Komodo's name and click challenge.

One of the bots that I have been using. (It was based off of a Netflix series) It has disappeared! Can someone explain to me why the bot has disappeared.

The site had a temporary license to use the character and likeness and no longer does.
