Points deducted for losing a game in 1 minute Bullet games

Hello,

Can someone please explain why when I am playing 1 minute Bullet games the points which are deducted when I lose are so great like for example up to -70 points or more?  Why is this?

When I play 3, 5 or 10 minute Bullet games the maximum points which can be deducted for losing a game is -10 points.

Yesterday, in one session I went from having 1200 points in 1 minute Bullet games down to 679 points after losing 7 chess games.  It is as if you are severely punished for playing 1 minute Bullet games.

Grateful for a response from the Chess.com Team.

Thank you.

Hi, I haven't just started playing bullet games.  I have been a member since 2015.  I did however play 1 minute chess for the first time on the 7th April.  That was when I started with 1200 points and after seven losses in a row ended up with about 679 points.

I understand that someone has to win and someone else has to lose - that is the nature of the game.  My question was why when I play 1 minute bullet games are the deductions from my score so great as opposed to 3,5 or 10 minute bullet games when the deductions from my score if I lose is maximum 10 points.

Grateful for a response from the Chess.com technical people.

Thank you.

Your rating for Blitz (3 mins or more) is completely separate from your rating for Bullet (less than three minutes). Hence you have barely played any games which would be classed as Bullet, and hence your Bullet rating is very erratic.

Thank you to everyone who wrote.

I do understand that there is a difference between Bullet and Blitz games but I'm still pondering what exactly is the point of a Bullet game? A 1 minute game is as its name suggests like a Bullet very fast and the great fluctuations in the score if you lose can virtually kill you.  I'm still reeling from losing 500 points after seven consecutive games.  I don't think I will ever get to have 1200 Bullet points again frustrated.png.  I think I will stick to Blitz games instead.

Thanks again for your explanations and your time.

Cheers

If you can't get to 1200 again, maybe you don't deserve to be there...

@stabilo-boss from the Netherlands: Nasty comment totally unnecessary.  I see that your own Bullet rating is well below 1200 ...

stabilo-boss

It's the truth..

And yes, I know about my rating happy.png.

Never said I was great at it..

BVERT

All right. I understand. Thanks.

I don't wish to play chequers thank you. What a bizarre suggestion to a person who is posing a question on the Chess.com website.

How do ratings work on Chess.com? - Chess.com Member Support and FAQs

If your rating is changing by a lot, that would be an indication that you have a high rating deviation (RD) for that particular rating, which means you haven't played very many games at that time control or that it was a while ago that you last played at that time control.

That 113 point drop looks like it's in a 10 minute game rather than in your 3 minute games

Rain_Davis

i play everyday. and it was 3 min game.

i also have a screenshot

Then please post it - you play 3 minute games every day and that is your Blitz rating. It hasn't changed that much (recently, anyway) (see Rain_Davis Blitz Chess Stats and Rating - Chess.com )

10 minute games are your Rapid rating and that's where you've lost 113 points - see Rain_Davis Rapid Chess Stats and Rating - Chess.com
