Problems with the website

Lately I've been having problems running the website. First, the website has been running considerably slower as of late. Second, the website has been crashing on me. I've been prompted a few tims by my computer to stop running the script as I submit my move (which is usually when it would crash). So, basically, my problem is that the website is slower (all the time) and sometimes it just plain doesn't work.

Has this been happening to anyone else? Any suggestions?

P.S. I've verified that it is not a problem with my computer, as I've had the same problems with other computers in my house, and other websites run as they always have.

Are you referring to live chess or the whole website?

I've been having that problem also. The message says something about if this page continues to run scripts my computer may become unresponsive. Something like that ( I'm not a computer guy) It's been happening when I make moves in turn-based chess and my opponent responds. Last couple of days

Ive been having serious problems with the site for the last 4 days (from computers here in calcutta and back home in london!) - however, no problems for the last 5 hours.

I switched to IE which I hate and the problem [same as Hobbitton 's] disappeared (both cities - no i don't have two accounts - i textd my partner back home - their account - same prob). I hope it is a coincidence, 'cause it'll be a sad day if/when this site becomes firefox-unfriendly.

UPDATE: back to firefox - prob seems to have disappeared now --- made 3 moves + lots of conditionals w/o prob

Yeah that's the message. And it's been with the website, not the live chess. Same as diomed, it happens when the board is being refreshed either after I make a move or my opponent makes a move, so it's been a bit disruptive to my chess games. The problem however happens on/off, sometimes it's really bad, sometimes I can get my moves through. It's only crashed once today. Other times it's crashed and I hadn't been able to run the site for a few hours.

normajeanyates resolved it which a switch from firefox to IE, but unfortunately I've been using IE all along. So I hope the problem does not reoccur for you.

I'm not very computer savy (at all) but could it be possible that such a thing might happen if website traffic was high? If the website keeps growing with members chess game traffic would increase, so, if thousands of games are running at the same time could cause this sort of problem?

well firefox->ie->back to firefox solved it to me *with* my preferred browser -

so you could try  ie->firefox->ie -- i mean my solution had as much (il)logic as the one i propose for you!

I had this problem as well.   IE6.   I updated my AdobeReader 8 to AdobeReader 9 and problem disappeared.  Same problem, slow loading, crashes, script msge etc.

Or I just got lucky.

I now use firefox beta 3 for this site; pages load much faster.

(firefox 2 for everything else since ff3beta doesnt take some very useful plugins.)

i found that upgrading to Firefox 3 beta helped significantly with page load times on this site.
