The "custom puzzles" you were choosing a rating range for in the first screenshot are separate from your regular, rated puzzles. You can see the separate "Rated" and "Custom" tabs on your puzzle stats page. The problem is that the puzzles you completed in the second screenshot were rated, and you don't get to choose a rating range for puzzles that actually affect your rating.
