puzzles score loss after solve, no hint used

Not sure how the puzzles scoring system works. Pretty inconsistent and terrible imo as I win 3 of 5 puzzles (no retries on fifth-lame) and end up with a lower score than I start. One of those “negative outcomes” the puzzle was solved after a retry and no hint was used. Should never receive negative score for solving a puzzle without hints.

Hmm. They give you at least five points for a correct answer the first time, no matter how long you take.
No points, however, for a retry.
