REMOVE THESE ADDS!!

Adds is one thing, but to popup in your face to click it away is just stupid.

What's next, click it 2 times away? Then 10 times?!

But the point really was: The scrollbar in IE doesn't work anymore after some adds load. But I guess no-one else has this problem then...

I agree with you and forget what everybody else says this site needs at least quieter ads becuase its annoying when they pop up and talk 

I just noticed that he has real problems when I actually read his post, so I agree with him now. Ads are necessary, annoying/problem-causing ads are not.

Actually I don't think it works this way - if your website shows more ads than receive clicks, you are actually going to slowly get less revenue for showing ads. It actually makes sense - if only showing the ad made money, you could just add thousands of ads to a few pages and then just redirect us there every now and then. Advertisers want you to BOTH display their ads AND have them clicked. chess.com is great at showing us ads... and maybe some internet noobz still actually click on them. Still hella annoying. "Tarot of Love"? Really?!

why don´t you explain the site owner you got a better idea. first the members are happy you get rid of the annoying ads and secondly your idea is lucrative for the owner. I´m sure he´ll do it if it´s better for everyone, if he doesn´t then the way it goes now is the best so far.

It could just be your computer (and because those "adds" could have a lot of graphics, it makes the computer work harder, thus response is slow). In a world where we need instant technological satisfaction, we all face these circumstances. You are not alone. We feel your pain...

I get that there are ads in free accounts, and I don't even mind the pop-up wallpaper ad that appears; I just close it and carry on. However, these Profit System/News 10 ads are disgusting. The only way to shut down the audio and ad is to close my browser via the task list and restart.

I've been happy with chess.com since day one,  but aggressive/unethical ads like that will drive away prospects for account upgrades, so chess.com should do the math. If they make more money from that ad type than converting free members to upper levels and can afford to lose prospects, that's okay. It's a business decision. I may join those who leave if the ad doesn't stop or if I can't find a way to block it. 

Again, it's just that particular aggresive ad that I'm griping about; the other ads (on the pages) are reasonable.

Let's give chess.com the benefit of the doubt and say they're unaware of those trick/unethical ads that may have more sinister goals than just aggresive advertising.

Let's keep checking this thread to see what chess.com admin has to say on the subject. They can't afford to be silent on the issue (I know because I'm no stranger to the world of corportate communication, and I doubt the admin are amateurs enough to not talk frankly about the particular ads at topic here). I can be okay with those ads if chess.com can gaurantee they're from safe and honest vendors.

Long-term reputation and credibility are more valuable than a quick buck from a nefarious advertiser annoying your prospects constantly, so they'll stop those ads or gaurantee safety. There's no way they'll blow credibility by doing neither.

I mean, I really like this site, and then all of a sudden these stupid popups appear. You might expect that somewhere else but not on a chess-site, where most people actually can think for longer than .4 seconds.

And if everybody starts blocking them, what's the point of it anyhow? Who really thinks they're really the 1.000.000th visitor or whatever [because "You're online now!", gee, that's right, it must be true!].

Right now i'm looking at a dotted picture of a horse with the message that 79% of the people can't see this correctly, so please click so you can feel smart and maybe we can sell you some crap..

And, no I'm not interested in kids-games or whatever, I clicked you away a hundred times now, so what else is this than just plain annoying. How does chess.com make money of this? If people want to play that game, they can see it perfectly there in the corner. I don't think there is any smart plan behind it at all. It's just based on simplistic statistical idea's. If we spam a million people 1% clicks the link, if we spam 2 million, .7% clicks it, so the more we spam, the more people click in general. How much does it COST to send a mail, how much MONEY do we MAKE on average from a potential BUYER? etc. The point is marketing people couldn't care less about the millions of people they have to irritate a little to get their stuff sold.

And to take this discusion a step further. Just saying complaining doesn't help, that's just the way things work, yuo should just ignore it, etc.. is THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!!! [that's how NAZI"S took over!] seriously..

You have no keen eye, you don't recall you came up with the spelling remark that others although from abroad couldn't spell. You remarks are random, you don't know the meaning of any saying, any double meaning and innuendo, you just don't want to loose no matter what and you think you have an enemy in me but the only enemy is in your own mind. I made the remark that you are good at chess, you're good at spelling, you might be good at Chinese, you have no logic, you don't see the point, you are a bragger and you have kids kicking your butt. Now I do like to apologize for that because I was completely out of line and was wrong.
