Renew vacation time every year?

I also play on ICCF - there you have vacation time of 30 days a year.

On chess.com my vacation time is down to zero (mostly because of the auto-vacation function!) and therefore I will lose every game in 2011. Simply because I will be on holidays for a week or I have too much work.

Simple solution: Give every member 30 days a year - cancel the 2 days per month and cancel autovacation.

Comments?

You can elect to turn off auto-vacation in your settings.

30 days in one lump sum sounds nice, but what happens when you use it all up in the first 6 months and then have 0 days for the last 6 months of your year?

There are pros and cons for either way to do it, but personally I prefer the gradual accumulation of days.

I think you will find auto-timeout protection cannot be turned off.

Eniamar

Turns out you're right. I must have been thinking about automatically claiming wins on time, which CAN be turned off.

erik

everyone gets a "rolling vacation" clock that accrues over time. you could get up to 90 days per year. if you look in the HELP section you can find an FAQ on vacation time and how it works.

Can you buy vacation time?

LlordLlama

No. And that wouldn't be fair, since it would allow wealthier people to get an advantage in a game just by buying more. Plus, there'd be no way to 'cap' someone's time and they could be on vacation forever. Permanent Vacation!

Not directly, but you do get a bit more vacation as a part of your premium subscription.

But if your vacation time is zero, than there is no way back. From now on I will lose EVERY game on time.

The best I see is to cancel my membership and get a new one - with new vacation time.

Or to join a different website :(

Did you look for the FAQ page that Erik mentioned? If you had, you would have been able to see that every member gets two days of vacation time per month, regardless of membership level.

If you had understood my problem, you would have been able to see that 2 days a month doesnt solve the problem. Usually I am away 14 days for holidays - therefore I will lose every game.

So now we have it!

Furthermore to losing all my games by this autovacation bullshit (I still dont see how I can turn that off) I am now not able to join a new tournament due to my high percentage of timeouts.

What a wonderful world...

What is left on this side is to watch some videos - then it should be time to quit, like so many before...

CoachConradAllison

You are asking for more vacation, because you have used yours all up.

No - I havent - the "machine" has done it!!! I would have preferred to lose some games on time on my own decision and not waste all my time due to AUTOVACATION BULLSHIT.

Now I am left with 32 % timeout - not able to join a tournament and left with no vacation time (which means next holidays its losing all games again and time out up again, and no tourneys again)

They care a lot about cheating here (I dont - even if I knew, that my opponents made computer moves!) but they dont care about their paying members!

CoachConradAllison

But if you had timed these game out, you would have had the same problems, perhaps better to resign than time out.

But I dont know in advance if I get in the moves in time - it just happens: family, work... - then looking on chess.com and see AUTOVACATION has done the job - brrrrrrrrrrrrr - I would have preferred to lose one or another game

You can start and play as many games as you want and join any tournaments that don't have a max time out percentage (or one higher than what yours currently is). So you can still play a lot of games if you want.

I would agree, it would probably be a benefit to make auto vacation a configurable option for premium members; though, the percentage of members wanting that may not make it worth implementing.

heinzie

You're already losing 1 out of 3 on timeout with autovacation turned on. What are you doing with opponents?

PrawnEatsPrawn

So, if I'm reading this right:

All of us, who have accrued more than thirty days, should give them up so that you can have more vacation to squander?

Not bleeping likely.

Bye bye.
