If it's the internet connection in general..

Then it's normal, almost every internet connection have bad times, and there can be many reasons.

Maybe there is more people on the internet at the same time than normally, maybe you have a application in the background (you can't see) there are using much speed.

Maybe you can take a internet connection speed test here: http://speedtest.net/

It's the best internet connection speed test, just choose a server nearest your location on the map.

I hope you can use this information to your problem. :-)

Okay, have you installed something new big software on the laptop?

If not, you can use CCleaner find it here: http://ccleaner.com
If you don't know how to install and use it, I can help you via. Skype remote support, or another application.

Do you have Skype on your laptop, if you have what is your Skype name?

Skype can be found and downloaded here: http://skype.com

Lol. Kasper doesn't know what he's talking about... a lot of people are having problems with this site. It's not our computers. There was a trojan linked to one of their ads a couple weeks ago, and I got a different one.

Are you saying that I do not have any experience with this problems?

I know what I'm talking about, if it was a trojan, it will not slow the computer!
A trojan is a malware there makes a invisible backdoor into the computer, and have nothing to do with slowing the computer down!

And if that was the problem, why havn't anyone suggested her a anti-virus program?

So I think it's you there don't know, what you are talking about.

I'm just answering on your message. :-)

Avatar of yue5000

Chrome has some issues with windows 7.

They are being fixed asap by google.

There is a thing called gears you will find it in the tool menu /options/under the hood/(or bonnet) /change gears settings, you type in any or all web sites you use like this one and it improves the connection between you and them, unfortunately this does not work in windows 7, so it doesn't help me,however this should work in windows xp,and may improve things.

bfs keeps crashing (again), its a whodunit, or twenty questions

question 1 to bfs are you animal, vegetable or mineral

maybe site fault or net connection or cluttered hard disk or defective laptop or all 4

avoid ccleaner if you are no techno nerd, it will only create issues

on your xp operating system press the buttons for; start, control panel, performance and maintenance, then go through the options and follow instructions, if this doesnt make sense or sort matters then call a friend or go to a pc store, and obtain guidance

or purchase a new laptop and live on jam sarnies for a month

hope this helps

Avatar of ruffian1

Living on jam butties for a month will not buy you a new laptop, get real.

I'm not aware of any trojans that improve computer performance.

Anything that runs on your system, using cpu memory and other system resources will slow your PC down, without exception. It may be imperceptably slower to the human eye, but it is slower.

Not all trojans upload the entire contents of your hard drive to the mother ship...they're too busy capturing bank account numbers and passwords. That doesn't require a lot of bandwith or cpu time.

Yes I know, that all running on the computer will slowdown the CPU, but it would not be the reason to hers computer will be so much slower than before.

Like you self writing a trojan will not take much on the CPU and bandwith.

It will also depends on whether it's a active trojan or inactive trojan.
Because a active trojan will of cause slow the computer and internet a little down. And a inactive trojan will just fill up the hard-drive and make it easier for hackers to get personal information, keywords and so on.

Actually you can have a trojan virus on your hard-drive, without ever find out.

So if it's a trojan horse there is the problem, why arren't you just installing a anti-virus or anti-spyware software on the computer?

I can warm recommend a free anti-virus all inclusive both, Antivirus and anti-spyware engine, Real time anti-rootkit protection, File System / Mail Shield, Web Shield, IM / P2P Shield, Network Shield and Behavior Shield in the Free Home Edition of the anti-virus program.

You can also buy Pro antivirus and Internet Security package.

It's the best antivirus program on the market, it have also surpassed the most antivirus programs, who are taking money for their antivirus programs.

The program is called avast!, and you can download the program on: http://avast.com

Windows can slow down over time even WITHOUT being infected, the system registry gets clogged, programs don't uninstall cleanly things like that. It's not a bad idea to do a complete OS reinstall periodically.

HOWEVER, if your computer is compromised a windows reinstall may not solve the problem, because some of the bad things can hide from a reformat. You need to run a data destruction program such as dban, and then be very careful about reintroducing any of your data files (which could still be infected).

And further, once your computer has been compromised it's probably too late to install anti-anything, especially if you've got an evil rootkit.

 Accurate!
That was that I told her to do, after she had run the CCleaner without any improvements.

I have also told her to make a Disk defragment with the Disk Defragmenter Tool in Windows.
Because the computer works almost like a human, the more files and folders, the longer will it take for the computer to find the things it should use, to do that you tell it to do.
The Disk Defragmenter Tool cleans up the desktop, and correct errors, so it's even easier for the computer to find the files you want.

If this dosn't even make a improvement, shes gonna reinstall the hole computer, and be sure nothing been forgotten on the hard-drive(s).

I never said I was going to reinstall at all you have to remember this is NOT my laptop and I don't have the OS disk

Yes, but if that is the only way to improve the speed of the laptop, you have to do it, or get the owner of the laptop to do it. :-)

1.Does it slows down evrything on your laptop(video, music documents) or it is just chess.com?

2.What firewall,antivirus,antispyware you got?

3.If it starts smoking run like hell....
