It's not a problem, which browser does he use? If he uses Chrome, he should open a Ingonito tab and it'll work or try again later or use a different browser (brave, carbon, Microsoft edge etc)

I am no computer geek, but I would suggest, if their using mobile, what Sol_808 said... use a different browser or incognito...

this should not be the problem , even i use both app and website on mobile . but if it shows problem i think you should advice him any of the options below
- unistall the app and use the website only , as website covers all options of app and even few more
- unistall the app and use website for sometime and then re install and try (this has worked for me)

Regarding new account , do not make any new account as chess.com only allows 1 account if they detect another they will ban both . although you can apply for 2nd account if they permit you , you can have a second account .
multi accounting is not allowed so don't take the risk of getting banned
