submit move loop

Sort:
Catherine-J

on a pretty regular basis,   i will be involved in a game.  after submitting my move, i click the green button, as per usual.   suddenly i return to the same screen, move unsubmitted.   no problem whatsoever;  i simply resubmit.

i do this 3-7 times in a row.  then when it finally registers, i move to the next game where the same problem may or may not happen.   I've tried to figure this out (via pop-up blockers, virtual memory, available ram space, security settings), but still the problem persists.  does anybody out there know the specifics of my situation?  or maybe experienced the same symptoms themselves?  Please no super-obvious advice on this one, i could deal without that because i wouldn't post an article unless i was super desperate and i'm frustrated enough already.

i don't mind if it only happens on occasion, but it seems to crop up during my most serious matches, and then linger.  sometimes i vacate chess.com and come back and things are fine.  sometimes the vacation does nada.  sometimes it only happens on games with particular players (in a roster of 20, 1 or 2 games will refuse to admit moves).  restarting my computer often has no effect.  my internet connection is solid.  i'm using windows XP home edition.

is it possible that becoming a paying member could correct this?  if so... i may just have to succumb to the will of the website

ooooooohhhh great and powerful chess.com might spirit i beg of thee........

Give us your money and we'll get rid of your problems Wink

But seriously, I have never experienced this, and am not sure why it's happening.

how frustrating that is... it happens to me all the time... I figured out a way to beat it that works 75% of the time...

after you hit submit the first time and it sends you back to the same screen... click the "moves" tab... then scroll through a few previous moves, then go back to the message screen... move your piece, then hit submit and most of the time that works...

so annoying though... especially when you have a queen and castle to a king and the opponent is making you play it out because he doesn't believe in resigning like a gentleman.. haha...

I always use this as a chance to reconsider my move.

There is a way to deal with this: play touch-move, like I do. I can honestly say I've never had to input a move twice for it to take it.

Is it a browser thing? 'Cause apparently firefox works great and explorer just... doesn't.

RyanMK

No, IE8 works perfectly for me.

RosarioVampire

or u could just like, remove the submit button and play touch move

Manchero

I think you should keep the submit button...a lot of us would blunder more if we played touch move.

I had the problem briefly a couple of months ago, but fortunately it only lasted a couple of days and did not return. Since chess.com have eliminated most of the bugs in turn based chess, it's a good idea to send them the info with examples if you can - using the contact or help tabs at the bottom of the page. Seems a few of you are having the problem but chess.com may not be aware of it.

its interesting how we all seem to have similar yet dissimilar experiences. when i encounter that problem, i know what happens next... i get dropped! and the game is lost! again!

Catherine-J

i feel more comfortable and reassured.  thanks everybody for your input!  let's hope it's a temporary thing.

kco

have you tried clearing out your caches ?

Catherine-J

how do i clear out my caches?

kco

click on " Tool " on your tool bar , you will see ' delete browsing history' and go from there

Catherine-J

oh yeah, i have done that.  it can be days without a problem.  i think that it's sometimes related to the fact that sometimes i open two or three chess.com windows at once.  i only make moves on one window, but check out profiles and browse articles on the other.  it'll happen when i only have single window as well, but i think that opening multiples of chess.com screens might encourage the problem.

kco

I am not sure about that one, I've done the same thing too but don't seem to have any problem with that.

i had the same problem, i reported it to the techs, but i think its a glitch. I thought they were cheating too because it ony happened with certain players. but hitting the move tab usually works for me

Same same. As with all things; work in progress. Be patient. The inadequacy of computers and the frustrations of chess!!

Catherine-J

yes, chess.com is working on it.   i've even noticed smoother play already.  i'd like to give a "Hells Yeah!" to the hardworking people who run this site. and a big THANK YOU!   also i've taken every piece of advice in this post, and deemed them unrelated to the issue.  however, my computer is running more smoothly, so it was totally worth it to address those lesser issues.
