Let me ask again:can I choose from the list the puzzles that I want to solve?Or do I just have to press 'start training' and solve whatever I am given?
erik

you can choose to LOOK at any puzzle you want, but if you want it to be RATED, then you have to just push on START TRAINING (otherwise you could just cheat).

we are launching a new UNRATED mode that is not timed and you specify a rating range. coming soon.

When I look at a puzzle,if I press 'try this',it won't start. And if I press 'start training',another puzzle is coming for solution, not this one that I am viewing. So,if I got it right,I can LOOK any puzzle I want, but training mode makes a random choice, not depending on me.Keep on the good work guys.

When you click "try this problem", it should close the window and redirect you back to the page with an error because as a basic member, you are not allowed to attempt any/all problems. You can only attempt those problems that you have already attempted in the past.

Thank you jay

about the multiple solutions thing, i recently underpromoted to a knight to clean the last rook off the board, so i was knight and pawns instead of Q and pawns vs rook and pawns, and it marked my move as incorrect, and cost me the points, even though it was probably an easier win.  Also, I dont think there is a way to close the promotion popup, which was a little irritating because the underpromotion idea only really occured to me after it popped up, and i couldnt close it to make sure, so made it anyway, and it turned out to be sound, but "wrong".  Frown

I agree, and it's easy to see how that can come about, since the computer would I imagine, simply see a queen for a rook and knight as a bad trade, even though for a person, it would have made the ending simpler.

I assume that the solution of every puzzle is saved as a computer program and the computer recognises only that code and nothing else which doesn't correspond with it.Computers cannot really "think".

 that's fantastic!

well a computer does think in a sense, assigning and comparing numerical values of a position, and 'deciding' one is clearly better, and in such calculations it will include the value of the material on the board.  I assume this is done when the problems are being generated.
