Fortunately this is not true for the majority of problems.
Tactics Trainer multiplicity
TT is a thing of evil. Drove me down from 1400 to 600 in hours - it dodges it twists, serpintine it does and i can't catch..evil...EVIL!
i stand here in shame.. with a rating of 600
I did not notice many issues with puzzles below 2200. Puzzles above 2200 tend to have more moves and more moves there are more chances that it will branch out.
another site has implemented a system where alternative answers that are also winning are marked as good moves and then lets you try again. Maybe they should try that here.
If you see a Tactics Trainer problem which had a multiple solution you can send me a message with the ID # of the tactic and I will either improve the solution or remove the tactic if it cannot be improved.
I don't think the issue here is really "multiple solutions." If the "correct" move isn't demonstrably the best move, then yeah, that would be a very bad puzzle, no argument.
I think here the complaint is that there is no "B+" in Tactics Trainer. You find and play the best move, or else you fail - and all failing moves are equal: If there's a mate in three out there, finding and playing for a mate in four is no better than throwing away your Queen, etc.
I've come to respect the Trainer's cruel tutelage, but I too have played on sites where you get another kick at the can for a clever "second best" type of move, and that's a kinder, gentler approach for sure. But fwiw I don't think either approach is superior to the other from a purely training-focussed standpoint. Ratings are maybe another issue. :)

For what it's worth - I disagree with the above. I notice that these messages are a couple of years old - so I'm hoping the TT has some alternative move system or the problems with alternative, clearly winning moves have been weeded out. Can anyone tell me if this is the case please? If it is I'll probably fork out for membership.
This is why I mainly do my tactics training on chesstempo.com, where moves which are not best, but clearly winning, are not penalized. This allows a wider variety of puzzles which would not be acceptable in the chess.com mechanism. If chess.com were to implement "ALT"s it would greatly increase the value of the tactics trainer here.

I found Tactics Trainer to be wonderful tool to learn and practise tactics. However some problems, especially above 2300 level, have annoying multiplicity, that is - puzzle has multiple possible solutions that are nearly equally good but only one of them is accepted.
Example: 7-8 move puzzle. On move 3 you can take queen and be up in material queen for a piece or you can give checkmate in another 5 moves. In real blitz play I would take a queen instead of hunting for elusive mate because it is easier to win (requires less time to think).
Tactics Trainer marks it as Failure instead of giving warning to look for alternative or simply accepting this as alternative correct path to victory.
This is only one example, I have also noticed puzzles where in 5 move puzzle you can give checkmate in 6 moves (all moves are forced so both solutions are win win). But Tactics Trainer accepts only first win in 5.
