It's most likely caused by lag. Can you read the following two FAQs and let me know if they help?

well hello I have the time problem my opponent seem to cheet me somehow and Im waiting like fool cos I couldnt do anything to stop him please help me .I dont know to what to do
Just playing 1 min Chess and my sone who was watching noticed that the time jumped and so my opponent got an increase in time.
How can this be resolved as i'm losing games that i should be winning
