Time outs in tournaments

I would love to hear off chess.com why this is the case. If someone joins a tournament then they know how many days per move it is.

When you are in a FIDE rated tournament, you are given a bye if your opponent does not appear for the game and has made no moves at all. You officially receive the point after your rival times out.

So, IMO,  there really should be no reason for the same to apply here on chess.com.

This player ... say if in a FIDE rated tournament, made 2 moves and timed out on move 3 ... would the same thing apply??

Why have I not been given the rating points for it???

The policy is 3 and a half moves for a timeout to affect ratings. Resignations count from move zero.

As long as all the players in the pool are treated the same, ratings work out in the end to indicate a player's ability relative to another.

There are other chess sites also where you don't get any points if the opponent times out before 3 moves. The game is simply registered as aborted. I have played in those sites too and this is the policiy they adopt.

Mind you this is what some sites do , but not all.
