Unable to see chess pieces when playing online chess

ive tried using firefox and google chrome... yet all i can see is my opponents name, his/her rating, a chess board with zero pieces, my name and my rating.
has anyone else had this problem?
my computer works fine while playing against the computer. its only a problem while playing online chess.
