Abandoning instead of resigning
I find it kind of annoying I have only done it once out of like the 2000 games I have played (not mentioning the ones where the internet conked out)
I'm getting a bit fed up of it. I played 7 games today, with three losses. Of those losses, two were people who abandoned a game that didn't seem clear-cut to me, obliging me to resign because I can't claim a win just because my opponent got bored and wandered off. I really, really, really want the option on abandoned games being declared a draw if the remaining player so wishes.
This has been happening since Curt von Bardeleben set the original bad example by simply walking out on his game with Wilhelm Steinitz at the Hastings tournament in 1895. It was a great game up until that point, though.

Why did you resign? If they wandered of, you can easily flag them. I understand that it's boring to wait couple minutes but so you won't lose your game. Or did I miss something?
... it's just me: I want to be sure that I won because I played better chess, so I hate claiming a win unless I'm absolutely certain that I could definitely win from the position I'm in. If someone abandons a game in an uncertain (to me) position, then I don't know if they got frustrated and wandered off, or whether their great aunt's knickers exploded and they understandably had to abandon the game because they needed to call the fire-brigade. So I tend to resign in case. But it's my personal problem!
I've never abandon anyone, and I never will. I've just made a huge mistake. i still have a lot to learn.
So far, it's a 2% ratio where I find opponents refusing to resign in lost positions. And I must say, I am learning something from even that too!
I agree with you, Idcn, that if one is indeed in a losing position (especially with just a lone king on the board), there's no point to let the clock run out instead of just resigning. BUT, at the same time I don't see why my opponent is not allowed to do so.
Because, whenever a player's clock is running, the chess game is still alive. I am alive, and so is my opponent even with his lone king.
If it happens, I'll still understand my opponent if they're trying to improve their chess rating here in Chess.com. I totally don't mind having my patience tested on this matter. After all, if I selected a 10 min blitz time and he gets into a losing position when he has 7 minutes left, I'll have to hang on and abide by the time rules.
I imagine an opponent "stalling" or "abandoning" a game as a hidden unseen move that goes out of chess moves in general. That can be their last card to play. And the more my opponents try to stall, the more I will find the best in them, and thanking them for teaching me patience.
Positive outlook, there!
i never abandon a game...not with a losing position, even not with a lonly king.....how much time did i get a draw from that kind of games where my oponent blunder his last move making it a draw.....chess is a war game....i really dont see the benefit of abandoning or resigning....if i have to lose, i will lose at the end....being checked mate..... AND im also very tired of players abandoning/resigning after losing a queen or having a less good position...we are here to play chess or what? If i never abandon/resign, i expect my oponent to do the same, so i can also win by check mate too.....what do i learn from a game if my oponent resign after 10 moves!!!!!!

I agree with you on the last part about players resigning after losing a queen but is it really worth it not resigning even if you're only left with a king? Isn't it a better feeling losing because you were outplayed, rather than having a draw or losing because your opponent made a blunder?
And again. When will anyone give me a "draw" button when my opponent abandons? I honestly don't want to claim a win when I can't see an obvious way to win, but I dislike having to lose when I'm not in an obviously lost position either. It's not much of a big feature-change to ask for!
Yep. Lichess has that option where you can opt to draw or claim the win if your opponent leaves. In fact, they have features this site lacks that I find cool like allowing takebacks, which I think, should be allowed here for unranked matches, and having a 30 second grace period for both sides in their opening move.

When you are playing very well during almost the whole game, crushing your opponent and suddenly you make a stupid blunder and losing even with a beter accuracy than your opponent, your opponent will for sure not give you the victory, and he shouldnt....so i dont see why even with one king left I wouldnt try to not lose the game! I have not been checkmated yet....
If someones playing a game let them play how they want. If they want to abandon, so be it. If they want to let the clock run out, let them.
