 This opening was popularized by a famous chess player named François-André Danican Philidor.  This chess opening have the reputation to be solid but also often a bit passive....

White:

Black: - when they play c6, often aim for pushing c5 or b5 pawn and protect this square.

          - when they play Nbd7, often aim for the control of e5 and c5.

          - Often a good idea in some variations to keep White pieces out of d5.
