Its... ITS OVER 9000
Average chess rating

Hey guys. I would like to know if low 1300s in chess.com is good for a 15 year old in blitz. I started playing last summer and have not read any chess books. Am I in good shape?

I am 15 and I have 1750-1800 :)
Big Deal. I know 12 year olds who would wipe the floor with you.

... "making good art". Check out the Beethoven sonata 3. and, play it 24 hours a day. You will hear some good art making.

Locally I am 774 in the KSCA (i am in the 7th grade). I played in a tournement today in the K-12 section (High School Division) . I beat some players rated 1161,1339,1038,1032, and a 1133. I lost one game to a 1277, but at the end of the game he said i was killing him at the start and in the middle game, but lost to him in the end game. I got 3rd place in the K-12 section and the 4 person team from our middle school in the K-12 section got 1st place. The person I lost to he and I tied on points, but since i lost to him he won second on tie breaks. So, I think its safe to say that the rating doesnt really matter in some situations. As for average ratings I have no idea.

I know what people mean when they say "rating doesn't really matter", that it doesn't really tell you how good or bad a player is and so on, however I personally pay attention to my rating as it helps me view, in some manner, my progress as a learning chess player. It's like slowly climbing up a ladder. I'm at 1400 now and I know for sure that I am a better player than when I was rated 1000, 1100, 1200 or 1300. As a rule I play mostly aginst opponents near my rating so that as I improve so does the level of my opponents

It also depends on was mode you play on. I've seen people who have a 2400 rating on online chess but their blitz rating is only like 1200. It really depends on what type of time-control you play and of course other factors. LIke im 15 my rating fluxuates between 1200 and 1400 on blitz chess, pretty average. I aslo think that rating dosnt mean much. ive seen three digit players beat people that are like 1800. The average rating is a very controversal topic

I thought you were supposed to play games like chess in your old age to keep your mind sharp. Playing chess has been shown to increase IQ.

Man to classify people "old fogie" or not, and especially use the metric of a chess rating as a determinant for lifestyle.....I have taken up analysing the performance metrics of a task based computing platform immeshed in an MSC connected to a central office switching platform to enhance the QOS value of connected call. Many engineers in this area when they retire may try something gentle on the mind....like chess. The posts on this of the 4 year area to even ask this question reveals what a person knows about chess if that is how most chess "elites" view things.....man calming down now, life is not over......

I have played 20,000 games or so in the last year and my rating is around 1375 and is going up but slowly. I started around 1000 so I am happy but I think you have to be pretty good to get above 1400. I have never had lessons yet and am just playing alor of games so I hope to get better with some formal training!

Playing blitz would make anyone's blood pressure shoot up! What happens when you play more slowly (i.e. days per move)?
If that sorts your blood pressure out, you should be able to get a chess.com membership on prescription.

i think the longer you've been playing the higher your rating will go. I find tht higher rated people are usually a little older...
I've seen guys who are over 30 still struggle to reach past an easy 1300. I personally reached 1800 before I was even in middle school when I was competing nationally across the U.S , some people just get chess naturally.

one other issue , I know I won and you marked as lost ????? what is going on here ? you you think I am a moron or having dimentia ???? hello
A sure sign of failure is to play the rating and not the board.
