Not sure why, but this was counted as a draw. Was it a bug? Or do I need to learn more about how blitz games work?

This is from the Help & Support article on How to claim a draw:

Finally, note that in cases where the opponent has insufficient material to mate (lone King, King + Knight, King + Bishop, King + 2 Knights) a draw will be automatically declared where there is a time-out.

If white ran out of time - it's scored as a draw - not a loss.

The comment - insufficient material looks suspecious however - did white have time on the clock ?

Yeah. Ok. White Did run out of time. I was counting on that to give me the win though (I was black). I sorta got a little pissy about it. :P I suppose it meant that Black had insufficient material, to justify a win,, but what a strange rule.

I think about it this way, my opponenet is out of time which means he doesn't get to move anymore. I have time so I get to keep on moving. In almost every position a series of continuous moves from one side will result in that side winning. Not here, you dance until you hit the 50 move rule.
