Client side clock

I have been frustrated so many times by losing through timeout. The reason is not my thinking time, but my poor connection. My opponents always have at least a minute advantage by move 5, and rather than trying to beat me through play, they simply play waiting moves until my clock runs out. This is a depresingly effective strategy.

So rather than having players with poor connections play with a handicap, how about implementing clocks that count client side rather than server side? This would make the playing field fair.

Think of what your opponent would see when he sees your clock run slower than his due to lag on your computer.

PS Try moving at great fractions of the speed of light.

Time will slow down then.

We try to make it as fair as we can. Unfortunately lag does happen, so we do try to deal with it as best as we can.

This link gives a pretty good example of our current system:

And this just gives you a general overview of what lag is:

Sorry for the inconvenience!

I read the first link. That does not work, at least not for connections with variable lag level. I'm guessing you ping the user's machine when he logs on? That is what handicaps me, I start a game with a low lag, and then my connection deteriorates and I start losing time.
