GG is meant for good intentions! NO ONE means any harm by saying it...
That bastard No One, first he calls my girlfriend all the time, and now he is taking a polite phrase and turning it into a hurtful one.
lol ^^

Ninja, you're lucky that you even had a draw there. I'm not saying you shouldn't have won, you should, but at one point you blew it by giving your queen away. At move 57. He just didn't see it. It would be three pawns against two at this point, with you winning, but anyways, given time pressure and assuming that the fact his rating is much higher then yours because he's a better player, I could see you loosing this game.
Either way it was a gg.
thank you for being completely understanding

Alright, I am not blonde but I don't get it... I am not stupid either!
Man, people really take gg so badly? If I say it after a game I won, I genuinely just mean that I want to thank them for a good game. It'd be a sign of disrespect *not* to say at least something like gg after a game, win or lose.
lol, this topic is sad. the fact of the matter is that if you are such a person that gets annoyed from a few letters printed on a screen, then you cannot be helped by anyone. i dont care if someone says gg when they win or when they lose, if they say it before they take my queen or after i took theirs, if they say say it because they feel it was actually a good game or if they are being arrogant. whatever the motive is i dont care, we are playing a game, and the objective of the game is to defeat your opponent, normally by outsmarting him. if you can get under the opponents skin then that effectively shows why you are the superior player, because their emotions get the better of them. in reality people get up in the middle of games and leave the table and purpously arrive late to a game all the time, and this is done to psycologically gain an edge on a mentally inferior opponent. if you cannot handle the pressures of a few letters printed onscreen then maybe you should turn the chat off. i say gg after every game, win or loss, and when people dont respond i see that as being arrogant. does it annoy me though? not at all, i couldnt care less, ive played against people who have said much worse and i dont let it bother me, this is not only just a game, but i am playing it online against who knows who around the entire world. if i let someone i dont even know bother me with such little effort, then in my opinion i am deserving of the mental anguish that follows suit.
Saying "gg" when you win is impolite. It is a phrase meant to compliment the opponent, not show off one's victory.
Completely disagree. What are you supposed to say? The first "g" in "gg" or "good game" does not necessarily mean "I played good" when I win. Instead it might mean "enjoyable", but gg is quicker to type and is universally understood. To you "It is a phrase meant to compliment the opponent", to me, it means I enjoyed the game. If you only enjoy your victories, that is another matter for you to deal with personally, and why should the person on the receiving end of the "gg" care.
To the OP & Natalia: Don't get your panties in a wad.
LOL! It's amazing what gg can lead to
Can someone, (who is less lazy then I am) make a disclaimer which we can copy and paste below "gg"? Thx.

Something like that? A bit over the top, I know.
Personally, my first encounter with "GG" was in the MTG text-based duel threads. It basically meant "game over, nice playing with you". You know, literally, "good game". You don't have to lose to say it. You just have to respect your opponent's playing, that's all. That's the interpretation I've taken with me since then. If you feel offended by it... well, just refer to the obviously-run-though-a-thesaurus disclaimer up there.
I don't agree with you at all. I think it is polite to say gg "good game" or thanks for the game ... even if there was no introduction or conversation during the game. I say gg if I win or lose, just to be a good sport, even if I don't know anything about the person I am saying it to besides that we just finished playing a game together.
in my opinion everyone say "gg" normally after win or lose and i am one of them but no one say it to make the other player angry after beating him
bueno juego
Must be tough on you Spanish-speaking players... I mean, If I said "bj" to someone after a game, they would really get offended.
Personally, when I mean to say "hahahaha noob owned lol", I say "hahahaha noob owned lol", not "gg". Guess I'm the only one....
Yes; real trolls don't need to hide behind pseudonyms. Trolling is a art.
Edit: and furthermore, would the people in Natalia's camp have only the LOSER say gg? If it is impolite to say gg after a win, then it would be only appropriate for the LOSER to say gg. That's almost like slavery :P. I know that what we are striving for here is modesty and courtesy, but this whole "gg is arrogance" thing is the most arrogant, immodest gargbage I've ever trounced upon. Just live and let live, for crying out loud. EDIT2: I feel like I've been trolled by this thread.
I dont really want to step in the discussion but just following the rules of courtesy, Natalia is right. If the person who looses doesnt say something it is his right, you dont need to break it by saying "Good game", especially if you crushed him. If i think i had a good game i usually would offer a rematch, the match of revenge :).
I feel like I've been trolled by this thread.
Quite possibly the sole purpose of the thread, really.
I guess the situation stems from the handshake. Although most people don't know it, the "higher ranked" person is the one who should initiate the handshake, i.e. stretch out his/her hand. So if you do it to someone that's higher ranked than you are (by position in a workplace, or age, otherwise), it can be considered a rather rude thing to do, as asserting your superiority over that person. Although, again, most people probably don't know that.
"GG" has a different intent, though. Which is just to say, "Hey, good game."
And if the loser is the one that has to say it, then "GG" becomes something the winner is expecting as a sign that they've outperformed their opponent. To me, that's more arrogant than just taking it to mean what it really does.
ok im just sayin here, dont mind me at all, but gg means owned. if your gona play me and not even say hello to me or anythin, and you say "gg" after you win, your basicly sayin 'hahahaha noob owned lol'. im just letin y'all know. if its a friends game or whatever obviously say whatever you want but if not, dont say gg to me. im just sayin. kthxbai :)
Yeah I know exacty what you mean!
I played a game earlier, and lost to a guy who said, "gg" at the end.
I was thinking the same thing you were I was so pissed!
