I just got kicked from live chess

Sort:

I was playing a game against a good opponent and I proceeded to make a stupid move that was basically going to result in me losing the game. I was furious (at myself) and typed "[No offensive language, no matter how masked it is - Mod.]" four times in one sentence. I then immediately forfeited the game and was told I'd been kicked.

In retrospect I regret my outburst, but it was not made at my opponent. Up until this point we had been chatting quite politely and enjoying a fun game.

Could anyone let me know how long I was be kicked for or if there is anything I need to do to challenge/reverse the kicking. I have been playing now for some years and have racked up thousands of games with an unblemished record for good conduct.

Regards.

A first kick is usually 30 minutes. As to challenging/reversing it, I don't believe you can just wait out the time and be careful to not use colorful language in chat. A second kick in a short time period goes up to an hour.

The chat has some automatic filters and apparently you broke the threshold for that.

Thanks pal, I'm back in now.

DeathStar3

Got to be careful what you say in there.   Almost all words like f**k will trigger an automatic "cooling off" period as they call it.

But I know how you feel.  I've felt like writing the same thing many times.   lol

I think these mods are really out of jobs, they're editing everything. It wasn't like this a few months back.

So true. Now you cannot write offensive words, only offensive comments

I know...sigh...

It comes in cycles. Get too lax and things get out of control so the reins have to be pulled back some. Sometimes, things just slip past but in general, the same things that have been unacceptable before are still unacceptable and pretty much the same stuff gets moderated.

I also have a job. Only get on during downtime and breaks. And when I'm not at work and not doing much else.

Oops I made a boo boo

Not nice to say that you are a mean person

I had the same thing happen to me. Chess.com is on that BS. We pay good money to indulge in a high quality chess experience. In those regards, one should be able to type anything they want. If the opponent disapproves, he has the option to " disable chat."

Those that would counterargue that it is inappropriate, I would refer them to the "ChessKids" affiliate of chess.com.

I am debating taking my money elsewhere. Chess is my stress-relief and I don't pay good money ($100 per yr) to be babysat by some self-righteous moderator.

VintagePawn

ChessKids is for kid under 13. This site is 13+ and a lot of peole don't want to be subjected to vulgar behavior in the first place and would like to still be able to have friendly chat.

The site has rules and some content isn't allowed. Paying a membership gives access to the site features, limited or not available to basic members, and does not provide the member a carte blanche to ignore the rules.

I pay money to **** on people.

>.>  Can you do an experiment for me?  Going into a public business, buy something, then proceed to swear like crazy.  Then complain when they kick you out for being rude and see how far that gets you.

Bilbo21

and you might make a million dollars on youtube

i like how you explained the recet moderation of forums Vintage Pawn , and now see why it all went awooooga mod alert in everyones forums lol  ,

the fact it isnt a weekly thing but can happen anytime will keep me on my toes too which i like ,

i think you ( the moderator team ) closed two of my forum pieces for being political in posts   , this wasnt my intent they were started prior to the closing and i was mistaken that the v2 version of whats allowed off topic had changed to v3

mods are chess.com players who have decided to offer more to the site and dont need nor really deserve insult , unless they have gone powermad but im sure cc keep an eye on those who represent them

cc is a great social site granted it has faults but its not there to tick all my boxes its there to create a place where the many 1000s of us can enjoy the site as often as we like or can

so if you ask in return of me that i refrain from insult and disrespectting other players the im happy to accept , my hope is that open discussion fulfills the role v2 off topic did , but open discussion has seen me called allsorts in the last 24 hrs , a work in progress though

I was kicked too. I dont no why

I don't like the idea according to which you may say what you want just because you've paid.

This said, I'm only a free user, and I've noticed that chat is sometimes moderated in a subjective or irrational way. You might be muted for a slight language deviation, while often reading quite racist expressions.
BTW, I do think that being offensive is a much higher violation than being rude.

Where is it writen that because you paid some money, youre entitled to do whatever you want?

You read and agreed to the site rules when you joined.  If you cant get through a game of online chess without cussing, cant follow the site rules, and feel youre being "babysat" then by all means go someplace else if following simple rules is to much for you.

A reminder in case you forgot:
