I wanted to say goodbye

It is with a slight sad feeling that i'm posting this to tell you that i have to quit using Chess.com after so many enjoyable games.

It is not a personal decision, but i just can't play like this anymore, more often than not now, while playing live chess (usually 30 mins games), i don't see an opponent move, i see his clock run down, then .... i realise that I was the one considered disconnected and that i lost the game! So, not only do i look like a twat stalling games but i lose the game without even being aware!

Maybe it's something going wrong on my end (i'm using Opera browser, for instance, which is not the most common) but i see no solution currently (don't wanna change the browser) so i just can't play on this site anymore.

Thank you for all these games, and farewell!

Have you ever tried the refresh button on your browser to check if you are still connected?

andre_v

Yes, even reloading the page, i still see the opponent's time running like it's his move and in background, i'm in fact disconnected, I have decided to keep this account as my "fun account" in the end so i can blunder all day on it when bored, and lately, haven't had the issue anymore....

It was probably some f'ed up server issue, looks better now, we'll see!

andre_v

right after i posted this, happened again, lost a game again being secretely disconnected! wow

hindustanibhau1337

I had this issue when I used Opera, especially when I used their garbage free VPN, it gives you constant disconnects, that's why it happens. Switched to Firefox and everything has been fine since.

Shizuko

I think you might have to switch to a different browser. Try Chrome or Firefox. Brave would world too since it's based on Chromium.

Terminator-T800

I wouldn't leave just over this.  It's been happening to me too so don't feel alonehappy.png

Something like that happens to me about one out of 20 days that I play.  I think it is my wifi connection suddenly and temporarily being too slow.  But I am suspicious that it might be chess.com's fault.  Either way, having unlimited playing available at my level that goes smoothly almost all the time is fantastic..

LongKnoll

Although I have bad connection, If anything would push me off the platform it's what has happened to Automate Chess!

LongKnoll

Can't they bring back Automate?

We all agree it was real great

The king of variants shining bright

For which we have an appetite

With newbies using lots of knight

'Cause Mr Rosen thought it right

And three hundred move long endgame

For which the engine was to blame

Fun ran riot in the chat

With puns and jokes right off the bat

Wild matchings of Elo

1400s 'gainst a pro

There was nought like it at all

It's absence does my heart appaul

Oh Chess.com what have you done?

You've killed such joy and smote such fun

But bring it back

I must beseech

To fascinate, inspire and teach

And radiate our sadder hour

With games to wipe away our glower.

Hi,

Maybe worth trying a new browser, or also checking other things aswell

This issue happens with me all the time as well.   Refreshing the page just kicks you out of the game immediately (and cards a LOSS).

There should be a UDP-based signal a player can send to the chess.com server for a status update (who's move is it?  what is the current board?  is my timer close (within a few seconds) to the correct time?).  If a discrepancy is found, the player can then request a FULL update and re-connect to the session without penalty.

noImAparrot

This is where we chat not play chess

Ofc joking

I have run through those items -- when a session disconnects, it is near impossible to mend.

A new browser does not correct the disconnection issue.

If you're on live chess you can change your connection settings to optimize your connection. I used to have problems and now I never do unless my internet actually goes out.

Also you can try running /ping in the chat and see what your lag is

It would be best if Chess.com just got rid of the Broken Connection 15-second timer.

There is absolutely no need for it, nor should it be set at a paltry 10-seconds.  That's often the precise amount of time between Internet Burps for a lot of people.

I cannot play Bullet or Blitz games here.  I have to go to an office or university setting for that.  My home DSL line and cable modem line both have issues (2 different companies, mind you), but both have the same issue described above.  I get lucky if I play a whole bunch of Live games and don't get caught with a stupid internet hiccup.

I do think it is an internal issue with chess.com's servers.  I do think chess.com should also allow the user to initiate a Re-connect request once every minute or so if the player worries whether they've lost a connection.  Send a UDP packet to see if the TCP/IP connection has been lost.  It's a simple trick, but chess.com haven't bothered with this as it's never interrupted Hikaru's games.  meh.png

I don't think rating is a reason to quit chess.

I get disconnected all the time - in Bullet and Blitz, and when I reload, I get reconnected. It should be really easy to do this in 30 minute chess.
