Rook endgames are notoriously flaggable, I loathe them with a passion
Live Chess Doesn't Recognize Dead Positions

They are fun to flag and swindle
I'm reminded of the time I dirty flagged @BlitzStreamz...

in the rook endings? Yes ists good
no it isn't really, at least to me. Whenever in those positions and I see that they can check me I always premove a king and it always works. the check is checked but I premove out of it.

I check about 2 times then attack rook with king
premoving basics, make sure everything's protected

@Endgamestudier I said, "if neither side is low on time" then offering a draw would be perfectly fine. But if one side is low on time... well, RIP.

I hope the site comes up with a solution, as until then, it looks like the 50 move rule applies, and will someone stop that elephant from trumpeting and doing all sorts of other things in that room.

Reminds me of the story of the young Lieutenants who "parked" a Chevvy in their Mess. They brought it in part by part and assembled it. The C.O, when informed, laughed and said that boys will be boys.

I'm only now realizing how witty this thread title is. And I wonder why my tactic rating has been stuck on the same level for the past few months.

The toughest part must have been the engine. You know if somebody slips up and it drops on your fingers, that's that. Until somebody calls for help you're going to be stuck there for a while with your fingers under the engine.

I just realized even the 50 move rule may not suffice:
Pawns can move and still no way to win.
then you dirty flag them... it's online chess, after all.

I'm pretty sure a check like that isn't trivial. Best case scenario, they only check for dead positions on a timeout, like they do for insufficient material. That is likely more doable, but it probably still accounts for a very large number of games, most of which won't be dead positions.
The engine just evaluates the position and doesn't do checks for dead positions, so the site would need to code a solution to cover it. I would imagine a very small percentage of games end up in a position that is truly dead where one side ends up winning on time, and the cost of coding a solution, testing and releasing it would make it a very low priority, if the site decided it was a problem needing solved.
That said, f you want to get this in front of staff, use the Help > Make a Suggestion feature and that will get in front of staff/devs.
I won a game where rook and king vs rook and king and my opponent had 1 min 30 sec
