There is another chess site, ICC, that I am a member at. Over there, after most games I say , handshake. Only 1 person out of 100 replies back with , handshake. Courtesy and good manners has mostly gone out the window. Oh and sometimes they even reply that the game was a waste of time because I wasn't a strong enough player, so there.

For every person wanting to say "Good game", "Well played" and "Good luck", there's ten hurling abuse at you or telling you you're an idiot for not resigning when they feel like you should resign. I'd rather play in silence and not find out what you're using the chat box for.

I don’t try to talk. I’ve said good game only once, and I lost. What I am trying to do, having been playing for about a year, starting today, is friend the person whether I win or lose. I don’t expect them to accept. But it might be nice to have a few people you play from time to time to see if we are improving. But today, someone said, “How you doin?” right as I was making a move. It was like being at a tennis match and they scream right as you serve. They also asked if I wanted to draw two moves in. That was strange. I guess all meant to rattle me. I won. I’ve only recently started playing people. I guess I better get ready got some weird sh*t. The computer is very polite.

Playing for a year on Chess.com. I think sometimes people might want to ask about a certain killer move someone made to simply learn and compliment. Ain’t everyone Harmon on here regardless of their self assessment. You play people at your own level to hopefully improve. Sad to hear I may run into some *sshats here just like everyplace else on earth apparently. I wish I could play chess with animals.

or if we were discussing posssssssible improvements for chess.com

BUT only after the game. The clock is running.
Shark2636

mostly only say "oops", "nice move",  "you got me" and stuff like that.

And even then I don’t want to have a discussion. I think people think you’re trying to become a chatty friend maybe. Nope. But some wins are amazing, meaning I got beat, or maybe I won, really down to the wire game, brutal, and I say “Fun!” Thats it. I’m enjoying it win or lose. It’s more just saying that was a rockin’ game. Because not every game is absolutely riveting.

Who cares if it’s an old post. Why even respond if you saw it years ago. It’s the first time I’m seeing it and it tuned me into a weird experience while playing tonight. Someone talking to me while I’m playing. Not cool. I’ll speak after the game if polite. I didn’t realize that Chess.com had aspects of the Antichrist, Mark Zuckerberg & Co. Now I know and will be prepared fir the jerks.

I have chat disabled by default, because it's quite common for Live Chess chat to come in the form of harassment, swearing, or threats.

Keeping the chat disabled keeps the chess silent and pleasant, with a focus on the only thing that matters in Live Chess: the chessboard itself.

Well, would you rather have someone not say GG and think you are being disrespected, or do you want to be COMPLIMENTED that he did well in this good game

nTzT

I'm agreeing with you.
