You are probably right. Whatever official game means. I assume that means a tournament or something, which probably over 99% of all chess games are not a part of. I wasnt even thinking of the extreme exceptions. I was thinking of the vast majority of games.

I also enjoy conversation in casual games with friends. The only thing I'd never do is take back a move.

I did say "during" the game, not for the 12 days either side of it too!  Eve in friendly games when I used to play them I wouldn't be so rude as to talk to my opponent during the game when he is trying to think.  If I wanted to do that I'd just cut the chess and talk instead!

Anduril this, Anduril that, but Glamdring was a more noble sword by far.

RowdyRoddy

When I begin a game and learn my opponent has disabled chat, I say, "Yeah, I hear you dude.  Too many rude unsportsmanlike jerks on this site."  If someone wants to have a fun game, and chooses not to give the 15% of the scum on this site a chance to insult-cuss-laugh at them, then I understand.  It's okay to BLOCK someone after they are rude -- I do it on this site EVERY DAY -- and I haven't disabled chat yet, but I empathize with those who do.

I am sorry that a simple gg is offensive and stupid. I try to be nice. Not many people are mean either and if they are block THEM

Lately i walked in a forest with a friend. Suddenly my friend hurts his head badly at a thick leaf of a tree.

He: "oooouchhh, that HURTED!"

Me: "Good Tree"

He: "WTF? I just hurted my head, f... that tree!"

Me: "Thanks for this nice walk in the forest"

He: "You kidding? I dont care for your thank you now, my head hurts!"

Me: "I understand, i think your biggest mistake was when you did not look at the tree, i think this caused your pain, wait is that blood on your head?"

(Friend walks towards me with an evil expression on his face)

He "Shut up shut uuup shut uuuup BITCH!"

What a Moron. I just tried to be nice. Now he wants me to shut up. Pointless.

At least you were nice lol.

There is little better than successful, passive aggressiveness

I play OTB. A fraction of people say "good game".

glamdring27

"everyone" doesn't make it very dificult to clearly refute hat statement!

Besides, if I'm playing over the board then I know who my opponent is, playing on the internet I neither know nor care, they are just some internet handle who is playing chess, be it better or worse than me.  When I feel like it I say 'gg' afer an online game or enter into some mid-game conversation, but not in live chess and I don't care whether or not my opponent acknowledges my 'gg'.

I wonder where you play?  The tournaments i have been to, only 1 time has someone refused to shake hands, say good luck, and good game.  A talk with his coach quickly lead to an apology.

Wow. That's actually considered rude by most players.
