My opponent won because I 'abandoned' the game?

So I made my move... then the timers just stopped for both of us. I waited.. and a few seconds later it said I abandoned the game? My internet didn't drop. Is this a glitch or something?

You probably had lag. It can happen for all and it can be only a short interruption on your connection. Even if it seems so, we always have to remember, that we are not moving directly on each others screens but througt a chain of servers. And your move did not reach the chess.com server (and the players time did not reach yours) so it recon you abandonned because you did not move.

I see. I was going to lose the game anyway so I'm not too bothered! I guess just one of those things.

It’s lag.com

I have this issue as well. It's extremely annoying. I've lost quite a few games due to this recently... I made a moved but then suddenly I abandoned. My internet was fine and I was browsing while playing thinking my opponent is thinking for 1-2mins.

The same happened to me right now. Lost 3 games like this sad.png The worst part is that the connection indicator showed Excellent connection, so I had no idea I was "abandoning" the game sad.png

Yeap. Same for me. It shows I have a good connection... and I probably do. Then suddenly it abandons the game.

Exactly the same here. My internet cinnection is excellent. But because cheese.com has lousy servers I lost 3 games in a row.

Experiencing lag now. All other sites function perfect. So lag.com will be sure it’s my connection wich fails. Logical.

Lag.com stroke again. Unplayable.

Just happened to me now - I am winning, I am ahead on time, I have a great connection, and it was my opponent's turn - his clock was running. There was NO abandonment. Completely unfair. I think some players may have learned how to switch to another board to keep from losing, and make it look like their opponent abandoned the game. Below is the screen shot - I am up a piece, ahead one minute, and my signal strength is good. Where's the abandonment???

I've lost 4 games this week to this specifically. I tried multiple devices too because I thought maybe the connection is dropping without me realizing or something. But nope, I lost because I abandoned the game apparently. I reported the players and explained the situation, but now I'm not sure if it's chess.com or the players are abusing some glitch.

I've had so many brief disconnections/ abandoned games that I've stopped playing timed games entirely. I doesn't take a full disconnection but merely a hiccup on this site to lead to a lost game. Hope this helps.

Yes!  I live in a rural area and my internet drops now and then.  I can understand if it drops and I don't get it back before my time elapses but this auto-abandon is DUMB!  What possible good can it do?  at most my opponents have saved 2-3 minutes of waiting for my connection to re-establish?  I could understand a 10+ minute auto-abandon on 60+ minute games.  Internet connections drop and 2 minutes is NOT ENOUGH time to reconnect.

Don't hold your breath waiting for an answer, even if you send in a "ticket."
