New live chess, your thoughts?

I couldn't play the old one at all, I can play this... That's gotta be good?

Small question, I don't know how to accept a challenge, clicking on play doesn't do anything. I create a new game, then presumably someone accepts because I get games that way. I'm probably doing something wrong, I asked in the live chat but there's too many messages there, not sure if someone answered

I keep getting booted off.  This happened 5 times in one game.  Although the DC savior helps, I sometimes can't get back on in 1 min and lose on time.  It's incredibly frustrating.

Two words to sum up the old live chess, same two words to sum up this one:

Doesn't Work.

To be more specific, the "flow" in the prior version on blitz and rapid games was MUCH better.  The interface is now very "choppy", and pieces now seem to hop around, making the game very difficult to follow.  It might work quite well for longer games, but for the 2 and 1 minute games, where time is so precious, this seems to work less well.

Chess.com sent out 2 messages to everyone that this is Live2 a TEMPORARY version. That Live3 will be out in a few weeks. It will have different public chat rooms, better looks, no bugs etc. Wait till Live 3 comes out. Everyone is complaining about this version without realizing this is not the final version, this is just a stepping stone to the real NEW version.

Neither of the previous 2 live chess'es have worked for me. I don't lose sleep over it. The best features on this site are the correspondance matches, articles, groups, and learning tools.

For live chess, I use other sites.

Yesterday for the first time I managed to get connected and played 4 games.

In terms of interface, although this one is still Beta, I prefer it very much. No bells and whistles and simple operation.

That being said, all of a sudden I got disconnected and when I tried to return received the message telling that the Live chess was limited to 1000 players.

Anyway, knowing that bugs are being fixed and throughput is being enhanced, this was the best experience I had with LC!

good, but i did'nt try the new version yet.. Wink

It says my live chess ratings are 'N/A' when Erik told us they would be rounded down to the nearest hundred. Hm. But when I tried to play this new version of live chess, it said my rating was 1500 for the game I was 'hosting', so that's good. I think it's working right anyway.

I'd prefer if live chess opening in another browser, but as long as it works, I'm happy.

Live Chess 1 was more stable for me. Now if I press "Play" under the Challenges tab, nothing happens. LC2 simply cannot handle the network traffic.

I've been really happy with it so far! It really has a nice feel and functions alot smoother than the previous interface. I did unforunately lose today to a... dun dun dun... disconnection! It was really rather sad. =( The game played on when suddenly the loading popped up for "Connection Lost - Reconnecting" and this lasted for literally more than 5 minutes until I decided to refresh the page, and was in fact NOT returned to my game. Very upsetting indeed.

I hate to say it, but under this new version all I ever get is a bad connection with LOADS of lag.  And, to make matters worse, your time keeps running during the lag.  I got disconnected in the middle of a 5 minute game 3 times this evening, and ended up losing a game I was handily winning because of elapsed time!  What's the point of playing when the site behaves like that?  Maybe I'll come back in the future and see if things have improved.  Then again, maybe not...

I have read a good sampling of the posts on the latest iteration of "live chess", and one thing stands out: the majority of those complaining are guests. If one is a guest in my neck of the woods, and continually whines and complains, they will be graciously shown the door and not invited back. A good dose of compassion and patience would be most welcome. The staff is doing a wonderful job and the situation has been explained several times. A "work in progress" is just that. At the end of the day IT Systems are machines, and machines tend to break down. They need constant attention and maintenance. And every once and again, despite your best efforts, it still doesn't run right. Perhaps some folks might pull out their wallet, ante up for a membership, and help support the ongoing development of the best chess site on the web!

I tried instant chess.com, but being a bit of a doofus (is that what they say in the US?) I couldnt seem to set the parameters of time control etc, so was just getting random games from 3 to 15 mins.  I think new live chess is good! I think it is smoother and quicker than the last and I really only play 1 min games so its horses for courses. as they say/

BigAlex

Another good experience! Stability is the key word. Could play some games till the end!!Foot in mouth

Sad, but true.

I started a 30 mt game and within 5 mins, i got disconnected, then within a couple of secs,i got reconnected, but the page said 'loading'. Soon, the board was back where i had left off which was good, but it went to start position again and it said 'loading' again and i waited for atleast about 5mins, meantime i chked my net connection-it was fine. Then keeping that page on in the 'loading' mode, i opened another fresh page and there i came to know that i have lost my game in 7 moves and i ve lost about 20 points!

And while i am writing this, the other page still says, 'loading'. :( I am sure there is atleast another 15 mts left!  I am really sad!

sugy

And another thing...I used to enjoy observing other better players' games. It was fun doing that while eating my meals or when i was not fresh enough to play live, but now in this version I am not able to do that. :(

i wonder what the odds are that Livechess3 will be another work in progress.  pretty good in favor of, i think.

killthequeen

I agree with Ilikeflags.

I predict that Livechess3 won't be crash hot either.

Won't stop me from subscribing to chess.com though, live chess has never been good here, there are better features that set this site apart from others., for live chess:
