Anyone else having this problem?  Any suggestions?  No, the mute is not on & the "Enable sounds" is checked.

Thanks!

If I recall right I used to get sound when moves were made.  I use Firefox.

I never had a problem with sound with Firefox 2.0.  I then updated to Firefox 3.0 and lost the sound in live chess.  I checked with other sites (YouTube for example) and always have sound with the new Firefox 3.0.  Sometimes I could get sound on live chess after toggling to a site to get sound (such as YouTube) then back to live chess.  Then I would go off the page, go back to live chess and lose the sound.  Or I would play one game with sound, then play another and lose the sound.  Not sure what is causing this.   I wanted to go back to Firefox 2.0, but that may be more trouble than it is worth.

I've also have this problem about 80% of the time. Re-connecting to the Live chess usually always fixes the problem for me (exit, then click on live chess again).

i just tested and it is working fine for me in FF3.

you need to have flash installed. make sure you volume is up, and that your sound is enabled of course :)

if you have done ALL of this and it is still not working, please message me so we can work on this!

I have this problem intermittently (with LiveChess).  I generally use Safari (3.1, on a Mac).  80% of the time, I have sound, 20% of the time, I don't.  And definitely it's not the mute button, etc.

Yeah I get this too with FF3 (but more I think on FF2 and its not as bad now).

So much so that whenever I long on I observe a quick game to make sure the move sounds are there before starting my own game. If they are not I just log out and back in and they are always there again. It's like somethings not loading properly.

I find I really need the sounds... game seems to feel somehow distant without them. =)

I actually spent some times around to see if I can fix the sound.  I was able to fix the sound now its dead again.  Here are procedures to fix and things I did later which killed the sound again.

while I was using Firefox 2.0.0.16 sound was working most times.  After I upgraded to newer Firefox 3.0 Sound was dying 80-90% of times.  Same issue when I used Google Chrome browser, but with IE 7.0 sound was always working however performance was truly suck and frustrating.  If you have power full computer maybe you can live with IE but I am using laptop so IE was out of question.

Solution, After I read many articles here, finally I removed the Firefox 3.0 and reinstalled 2.0 version.  Amazingly Sound came back and was working.

After couple weeks, I ended up installing Adobe Flash, Google Talk, and Yahoo Messenger on my laptop.  Again Sound died.  Now I am going to uninstall all these and will update you if I get a sound back ... because without sound playing chess kind of suck :)

Will update shortly if I get the sound back again.

okay here is update to my last post...  got the sound working again.

I uninstalled following using add/remove programs:

  • Firefox 2.0.0.16
  • Adobe Flash and ActiveX
  • ebay Toolbar
  • Skype 3.0
  • Google Chrome browser
  • Disabled Yahoo and Google talk so they don't load when Windows start
  • Uninstalled Spore Creature creator (I doubt that had anything to do with it)
  • All Java updates except the Java main app itself

Then I installed the following in order:

Reinstalled Firefox 2.0.0.16 without Adobe flash, tested site and Sound still did not work. (tried both in Safe and standard mode)

Next installed Adobe Flash since browser was asking for it when I logged to Chess.com... Then closed all my browser windows (firefox), and re-logged in chess.com.  Sound started working... yeepeee... for sanity check retried and Sound is still working.

I am using WinXP on Dell M70 notebook.   Lets see if it keeps working.

Good luck,

Sean
