way to auto deselect piece after i put it back down?

In my mind, when i pick up a piece with my mouse (holding down the click) and then i drop the piece back to its original square so i can move something else i always think that the piece is deselected

i end up clicking the board and constantly mis-moving my pieces to random squares because even though i dropped it, it still counts as "selected"

i thought i could get used to it but after months on this site it still happens to me

is there anyway to get pieces to auto deselect when you drop them? i've looked at the settings and the move method doesn't have an option for this

I agree that it’s very inconvenient. There isn’t any better option that I know, but you can always double click the selected piece and then click on another piece, and it should switch.

ahh thats a shame. i guess i can try that or maybe try turning it to clicking only just to force myself out of the habit

thanks for the suggestion! wink.png

But I went on Live Chess today and the interface changed a little for me. Now I can actually deselect by just selecting another piece.

Whenever i am dragging a piece while dragging if I want to put the piece back I have to put it back on the square it was on. It should be made so right-click does that automatically

In reeal chess, there is a "touch-move" rule. If you pick up a piece, you must make a move with it.

It is actually a good lesson to learn: don't touch a piece until you make up your mind.
