We need a new time control:

Not more than 1/5 of total time may be used on one move. I'm playing against many sore losers: As soon as I make a decisive move, they get upset and just stop moving. I then have to wait 10 minutes for their clock to finally expire. If the 1/5 rule were implemented, I'd only have to wait 2 minutes for them to lose.

I'm typing this as I wait for [name deleted by chesserroo2 after hearing forum rules] to move, since he/she lost his/her queen on the third move. Why can't they just resign when they blunder like that. Oh no, a lower rated player caught their mistake.

@OP: Naming and shaming in the main forums is forbidden by the site rules. Next time, please keep abusers anonymous.

Chess.com also has a Fair Play Policy designed to punish players who unsportingly make people wait as you have described. Your opponent should be punished according to that policy. The site has no need for your suggested time control modification.

That is soooooo nice and gracious of you to say such kind, generous and appreciative words for the person that's been playing chess with you. I'm sure your opponent will be deeply impressed and thankful.

No, they were not playing chess with me. Letting the clock run down is not playing chess. It is just being spiteful.

And it happened again. I never said anything to my opponent. I just defeated another one, and got the same reaction. Too many people on here just hate winning. No wonder they keep losing. If someone defeats your attack, you should be happy to learn how it is done, rather than punishing them by making them wait.

I've deleted my opponent's name per the forum rules, though I do not think they are worthy to play a second time with that attitude.

Too bad we "do not match me with this player again" list we can add people to. I'm not trying to give the programmers trouble, or make the server work harder.

Even better yet, instead of penalizing these people directly, why not just match them with each other so they can waste each other's time.

In my most recent game, there was only one legal move left. There was no thinking left. My opponent just chose to make me wait.

I think I found the solution, with the existing tools:

Just play 5/10 time controls. That gives even more time than a 10/0 game, but the opponent can't waste as many of my minutes. Maybe even 5/5 would be better.

30 moves, times 5 seconds, is 2.5 minutes, so 7.5 total. 5/10 is equal to 10/10 if there are 30 moves. Also, the side with the superior position will win, if that is desireable. I think I'd even prefer 3/10 or 4/10, but I don't know how many matches I'd get that way.

I just played a 5/10 game. We both ended with 6 minutes on our clocks. I also had to wait a minute to find a match. I guess this means I should still play 5/10, but spend more time thinking about my moves since I can. Luckily my opponent did not make me wait 6 minutes. Maybe 2/10 is better, though again it is about finding a match.

Ok, I found the perfect time control for me:

3/10, and it did not take me long to get matched.

10 seconds per move is my usual pace, and 3 minutes is not long to wait, and keeps up some pressure. Maybe I should play 2/15.

That was such a fun game. There was pressure to keep moving, yet still plenty of time for moves. The clock never ran out, and the better player won.
