I only use abort if my opponent doesn't want to make a first move. Since the clocks don't start until after that it is a needed function. Are you sure it doesn't only seem like more because it frustrates you so those times are what you keep in mind? I rarely get aborts in live chess.
I hate it when this happens. Someone aborted a game with me the other day, while I was debating if to play my standard 1.d4, or try 1.Nc3.
Maybe it was me who aborted your game.
I do that all the time if someone does not move in 10 seconds. I decide what opening I want to play before I ask for a live game, at least as white. Black I can understand a bit more.
I enjoy playing every opening there is, as black or white, and like to leave book on the 3rd move. If you try to play sicilian, I'll just develop as though it were an open e pawn game. But I respect those who only like certain openings.
If someone only wants to play sicilian as black, and nothing else, and aborts 5 games until they get 1. e4, I think they should do what makes them happy. The computer will give me someone else in 2 seconds and my game will last 20 minutes, so not much skin off my back. I'd rather play someone who wants to play my opening, not someone who is bored with the game the whole time. If they are an expert at their opening, then I want them to zap me so I learn. I don't care if they don't learn a different opening. That is their problem. Their rating is not my concern.
i sometimes use abort when I accidentaly click a 1 1 game instead of a 1 0 game.
