Consecutive check challenge

Question for you to ponder:

What is the maximum number of consecutive checks possible in a game of chess? Construct a position and continuation and post it here. Highest number of checks wins! (This is harder than it sounds).

Here are the stipulations:

1. The position must be legal, and possible to reach in a normal game of chess.

2. No pawns may have previously promoted.

3. Each side must give check on every turn.

They don't have to be good moves, just legal. In fact, the moves will probably be pretty awful.

So how many do you think you can do? I have a pretty good solution to this, but I will allow people to try their hand at this before I post mine. I don't know if I have the maximum length, but if you want to beat it, you're going to have to think this out for a bit. Hint: it's definitely greater than 20.

I didn't know this had been covered before. I promise not to look there and ask others not to as well. I have not gotten that many yet, so I may keep trying.

I'm still holding off posting until a few more people get a chance. So far BlessedStar has the best at 14. Keep 'em coming, guys!

I've given it a day, and now I'm ready to show my attempt. And here it is:

Black to move, White and Black to give 25 consecutive checks.

When looking at this opening setup in Fritz 13, it's amusig to have the "Hotness Meter" up. The needle pegs at maximum hotness! :)

I was toying around with the idea working in some promotions, but so far I can't beat 25.

Hello Jamie, I noticed that you stop checking on Black's 10th move. 10...Bxc4 is not check!

I hope you can explain this.

Oops, thanks for spotting that. I got the moves out of order. Fix on the way!

The current record is 54 consecutive checks:
