MATE IN TWO
Woooooooooooow, i spent too long on this one,,,First, thank you scarjo for giving me the theme, your Qg4+ helped a lot in finding the solution
and here's my solution: (select the blank area below to see the answer):
1.Qg6!+
if 1...Rxg6 cxd8=N#
if: 1...Ke5 Qd6# notice the black queen is pinned (i spent most of the time thinking about a mate in one after K takes e5
, still proves you may not spot a mate in one in a short time!)
I believe Scarjo is right, the solution must be:
1. Qg4+ Rxg4 2. cxd8=N#
Scarjo's second solution, however, does not work:
1. Qg4+ Kxe5 2. Bxg7+ Bf6
I initially thought "Well done reflaxion" but what if 1....Kxe5, his rook is now pinned, but his king has 2 squares d4 and f4 to escape a further check.
ok since everyone revealed everything, there is not much left to be hidden. i'll quote my previous post again, but with no white font:

It's a variation in both my move lists. If 1. ... Kxe5, 2. Qd6#.
Reflexian solution is good (?) but your final position is is not check-mate. King walks out of danger !! I saw this position in CHESS FORUM ( now closed) in 2004. You are free to try chess engines even they find it tricky !!!

If by "tricky" you mean it won't find mate in 2 automatically, this is true unless the engine has a matefinder mode. It will look for the win and "settle" for that.

How does black's king walk out of danger?
1Qg6+ Rxg6 and the e5 pawn is now protected so 2 cxd8=N#
or 1...Bf6 and 2 Qxf6#
or 1...Kxe5 and black's queen and rook are now pinned so 2Qd6# works.
This puzzle drove me so nuts I didn't believe reflexian's solution when he handed it to me. Now you are wrecking it without explanation.
Again, thank you reflexian, and thank you Hamiduddin for a truly superior puzzle.
