My first puzzle!

I was reading a great article from GM Serper about tactical patterns, and used the theme to create this puzzle. Enjoy!
It's not bad, and I see what you were going for, as black must give up his queen...but 1 Qxa7 is much stronger, as mate cannot be avoided for long.

That's right - I didn't even think about that. 
I guess I should have put black's a-pawn on a6 to take that variation out of the realm of possibilities...

If Qxa7, wouldn't that give the blacks a chance to mate the whites?
