Puzzle for Strong Players

Hello guys,

I'd like to show you a game that I played on chess.com earlier today.

In middle of the game, I came up with a very creative trap that crushed my opponent after two moves!

Before I executed my evil trap, the game was more or less equal, and after the trap my opponent had no chance to win or draw whatsoever.

I created a puzzle from this special game.

If you are a strong player, you might want to try and find the trap.

This is the position in which the trap begins. Can you find the two devastating moves?

And Here is the complete game:

Good luck!

No offense but this was quite simple it took me 15 seconds. But its still a nice tactic. Good job

Thank you LilBoat happy.png

You are rated 1700+ so I'm not surprised that it wasn't hard for you

You should have put a rook on c1 as to meet Nxc5 with Rxc5. In this position c5 just drops a pawn.

Thanks for pointing it out. Nxc5 would drop a pawn, but it seems to me that the loss of a pawn would eventually lead to a better position for White. After black plays Nxc5 the black knight could be chased away to a very lame square - a4, from which it can't participate in the game. For example:

The very first idea that  came to mind grin.png No knights to fork so naturally the mind looks for pins with bishops. And it's even an absolute pin.

But the enemy still has a lot of counter options and tempo to gain on your queen. There are no safe squares on the fourth row and you still need to guard the h4 square. Worst case with best play, black loses a horse for a pawn(and a bad placed one which is asking to be gobbled) so it's far from a clear win.

That was pretty easy tbh tongue.png

what if the knight takes in place of the porn, its a wrong puzzel

Chse0c

No offence but this is pretty basic stuff, when one sees the King and Queen's position, then the "devastating moves" are easy to figure out. Thanks for taking the time to let us see them.

If the Knight takes then the fun is slightly spoilt. Pity to spoil the puzzle, though, so use the porn.

I analyzed the variation that you mention with my chess engine. It turns out that white would still have a significant advantage (the engine says +3.5). However, it would be a positional advantage rather than a material advantage. Read my last comment to eenoog.

I will have posted a more difficult puzzle by the end of this week. I hope it'll challenge you happy.png

devastating? why?

Because many players can't recover from such a horrible loss. When they lose a game like this, they decide to quit chess, their career crushes, they fall into poverty, girlfriends break up with them because girls don't like guys who give up the queen for nothing. As a result, they never regain their sanity.

That was disappointing...sure the position is great but theres nothing concrete after Nxc5

You're wrong. White is winning after Nxc5. Read my explanation to eenoog before getting disappointed for no reason...

Read an explanation of what "great but nothing concrete" means before telling me to read some explanation for no reason.

Okay, Sorry for the misunderstanding.

What do you mean by "nothing concrete"?

Bulacano

Nothing concrete. A slight edge at best.

ko12ko12ko12

By nothing concrete i mean you're not up material, and are not winning any material or the game by force in the next few moves.

Good puzzles usually lead to clear 2 point advantages which even a beginner can recognize, whereas here, without the engine evaluation it might not be so obvious that white has full compensation for the pawn.

FortunaMajor

I solved it within the first 10 seconds. Although I made a few incorrect ones before the final right one.
