Wilhelm (William) Steinitz (1836-1900) was the first offical world chess champion from 1886 to 1894. He was a fine tactical player who liked gambits and attacks. Here is a position that arose after a King's Gambit. As White, he had just sacrificed his Knight (...fxe5) which now leads to mate in this nice combination.
