Wild suggestion: what if 2048 and chess were combined? pieces move normally as they would in regular chess, maybe you just start out with a couple of pawns. You choose to move just one of the pieces, and a pawn randomly pops up somewhere on the board. By capturing, you work up to knights, bishops, etc. Try to get as many kings as possible?
