I’ll split this into 4 parts.
1-The origins of McDonald’s
So once upon a time there were 2 men, the McDonald brothers dic and Mac (Ever wonder who the Big Mac was named after?) anyway, they were once in the movie industry but it collapsed in the Great Depression, so instead they turned to food seeing its success, however the town they were in was small so they moved to California, they revamped their carhop system into a walk-up but people didn’t like it, but eventually one day they magically got a bunch of customers and they were, as Mac called it “A overnight sensation 30 years in the making”

2-RAY CROC?1!1?!?1
One day a man named Ray Croc, a struggling businessman, went to go see McDonald’s, he met Mac Mcdonald and got a free tour, he was very impressed by the restaurant and asked them about their story (See above). Ray Croc suggested franchising and eventually he was hired to create and manage franchises under a strict contract by Dic and Mac’s suggestion. But over time he kept breaking the contract for many reasons, and he eventually betrayed the McDonald brother and stole their company. Dic McDonald asked him “Why couldn’t you just copy it, why did you have to take it?” Croc replied “It’s the name, it sounded holesome it sounded genuine ‘McDonald’s’ sounds a lot like America”

The next few parts I don’t know much about but I’ll try
3-Fast food imperialism
So after Ray died he was succeeded by Fred Turner, Fred turner decided to take franchising to the next level and speedrun locations all over the globe to over 200 countries. And over the next few decades they kept expanding and expanding using new technology to franchise along the way.

If it hadn't been for Ray Croc, Mcdonalds would've stayed in California...and yes, I've seen "FOUNDER" (Ray Croc played by Michael Keaton)...Mac McDonald was a nickname for Maurice Mcdonald...and Ray didn't "steal" the company; he bought it.

Everything was legal. That’s why everything happened in the first place. Also I don’t think taking a company global and enabling it to serve more customers is ruining it.

mcdonalds is but a mere shadow of its former glory, an omnipotent corporation scrounging off the scraps of childrens hopes and dreams, just to make a profit
