Opti post 230. I liked that very much. It reminds me of non duality. Night and day are both outcomes of the same process.

And I can see something in though yes causality exists it's true that consciousness leads to preferences.

I have observed that nonetheless all these things fit within a pattern but I can accept that's not necessarily useful in this conversation.

Interesting. I've heard the initial matter we came from was once smaller than a full stop. Then came inflation.

But we can look back in time don't you agree as space expanded faster than the speed of light?

We know that the universe is expanding.>>

I'm not sure what point you're making. Which Blyth? I know of one in Northumberland and one somewhere around Lincolnshire.

Northumberland.

My favourite place is embleton bay. My point is we know things were incredibly small once don't you think? And that the laws of physics break down when things are so small.

I suppose I just meant perhaps you can accept the concept of time is meaningless at that point.

Buddy I think your weakest argument against a multiverse was that uni means one. So what?! Bad wording you know.>>

Afraid you would need to do better than that.

<<<noun use of neuter of adjective universus "all together, all in one, whole, entire, relating to all," literally "turned into one," from unus "one" (see one) + versus, past participle of vertere "to turn, turn back, be turned; convert, transform, translate; be changed">>>

In other words "everything in one". If everything is turned into one, that "one" can only be a concept. The Universe is the concept of the totality of all things in existence. That meaning is inescapable and if scientists misuse it, that's down to their ignorance and lack of education.

If they wish, they can propose zones of the universe, but that doesn't make sense because there's no evidence for anything that's beyond our capability to detect it. That much should be obvious, so it isn't "just words". Words are necessary and these people make a mockery of communication.

I lived in Morpeth from 1965 to 1978 with a break of five years. I still visit the region several times a year. I was a keen footballer, also rowed in fours in Blyth harbour and went to many dances at the Yatch Club. Wonder if that boat is still there? Went to Morpeth Grammar.

Okay. I see more clearly where you are coming from.

I have to admit though I do personally find the multiverse theory probable I can't imagine how they relate to one another.

For instance do they fit together? Do they affect one another?

I don't know. If one universe doesn't affect the other then universe isn't such a bad term in a way.

I'll tell you what. I believe all things are nature but that doesn't fit with conventional terminology.

But language is based on what's known. If understanding improves language needs to evolve.

Hmm not sure about the boat. Morpeth is a real nice town. Rothbury even prettier.
Avatar of Optimissed

Not much to Rothbury. Used to walk up Simonside in the snow.

They can't. If so they'd be all the same universe. So they're permanently undetectable, which makes the theory a bit daft and a bit like fairies at the bottom of my garden.

My son's just mved to Newcastle. He and his girlfriend are buying a house in Heaton, North of the Coast Road. Seems OK there.

Laz that is exactly what a positive mindset can do.

Opti 232.

You're insightful.

I don't think that hawking is arguing for quantum physics being a part of human being behaviour.

He does state observation affects the quantum world though.

I'll tell you how I view human being behaviour.

Well a part of evolution.

All our thought feeling and behaviour has a natural explanation.

When I initially experienced that free will doesn't exist and therefore there is no self I struggled with one thing.

Love.

I looked into the science though and found love is a part of nature too.

Opti you can't escape nature. It's what you are.

As for the personal probing, well I suppose if I do reject the concept of self through want or need it's perhaps because I am not always a perfect gentleman. Maybe I'm more comfortable renouncing my existence!

You've talked about science as being inconclusive as to what makes us what we are. I think that logic tells me that the concept of free will is false.

I don't imagine freewill as being compatible with either nature nor evolution.

I'm always amazed at how people believe in both evolution and free will.

Where does one start and the other end? For me they are mutually exclusive. All our desires and needs have evolved to be.

What's interesting though is now evolution isn't entirely blind. We can genetically engineer. But then we've always interfered with nature. It's more technical lately that's all.

But the genetic designer is a part of nature.

He removes the genetic disorder. Why? Because he loves? Why? He's evolved to love.

Opti you hold it to be true that you exist.

Do you imagine one day you won't and if so what value can you find within your life?

Think about this....in nature nothing just happens one time only...everything repeats it self for billions of times...that also could apply to the big bang...so it could be that there is more than one big bang ...that again would mean that there are multiple universes.

These things are pretty complicated... it makes  chess look like easy..

This philosophizing here is pretty good at telling us how much we don't know or that we're all mistaken. If all this philosophy can't tell us anything practical or useful, it's worthless.
