BTW, the Quadranid meteor shower is tonight (Tue night/Wed am) and should be timed correctly to be good for North America, just in case anyone is located where it's warm enough to spend some time outside at 3 a.m.
A tad chilly
Bet you don't see any meteors, Cystem.
Since I've been back from Wyoming, the sun has shone for a grand total of about eight hours.
Ahhh, cloudy Michigan, gotta' love it.
Right now (11:00 am) it's absolutely clear with brilliant sunshine and it's still only (-2) F. At least when it's cloudy it's usually warmer. Gotta like that thermal blanket up there even if it looks gloomy.
Last night's low at my house was (-17.9) F (-27.7) C, a new low for the season for this location. Fortunately, all water pipes are still flowing at the Phailure Ranch. At a little past noon now it's up to a balmy +4 F . I ain't setting foot outside.
I know you're going to laugh at me, but we got our first snow of the winter today. We have about three inches on the ground. It is supposed to stay below freezing until Thursday.
-31°C here today with the wind chill making it feel like -40°C to -45°C.
I should have just rolled over and gone back to bed today.
That beats my record low for the year (set just this past wekend) by 3 degrees C. The wind adds insult, although by the time it's that cold it's already into dangerous territory even without the wind. Still, a nasty wind can make the difference in frostbite on the cheeks even with just a few seconds of exposure.
As of today, it looks like you've got a few more inches on the way too, corrijean.
We've got about 8 inches now. The wind chill was below zero this morning when I was walking to work. It felt pretty cold when I was walking into the wind, but not bad otherwise.
Same storm here, 2 inches of snow, followed by warm southerly winds and rain. Snow disappeared. Got to 52 F.
Guys, could you please bring some of your cool stuff over here, that will be great and while you are there we might be able to warm you up.
goldendog and corrijean-- that storm sounds like my memories of the 3 years I lived in Oklahoma as a youth (aged 7-9). A couple times we got 2 or 3 inches of snow, all the schools got shut down, and by noon we were outside playing in the mud.
We have tons of snow here. It's just that normally it stays up in the mountains. We can go visit it if we feel like it.
Total snowfall here so far this winter is only 36 inches, exactly half of normal for this date. If it doesn't pick up fast there are going to be some low lake levels next summer.

Sunrise was about 40 minutes ago and the temperature is all the way up to (-9) F [-22.8 C]! The actual minimum a little earlier at my house was -9.9. That's the first serious dip below zero so far this winter, though there was one overnight low of -0.8 a couple days ago.
