A tad chilly

The statistical last day of snow for you (24th) is coming up pretty soon.  Of course that would change every year but I don't have the data to compute it.  Perhaps you do?

Right now, at mid-afternoon, the temperature has climbed to 34°F and it's raining. There was a little bit of snow flurry earlier today, and likely will be tonight too. A few days ago the Soo hit 75°.

Two years ago was the big freeze on the Great Lakes. On this date in 2014 well over half of Lake Superior still had solid ice cover.

34? screw that. even though i'm half blind i still played golf 3 times in the last week in 80f temps.

I hadn't seen this before: parasitic architecture, or pre-fab apartments built on (and off of) existing buildings. These are in Paris.

It's been awhile and I thought I'd just check in on Siberia and see if its warmed up over there at all.  It looks like they are finally going to have spring weather next week followed by summer a couple of days later. Tongue Out

Here's a combination cooler/barbequer to go along with the recycle bin swimming pool pictured earlier in the thread.

That's not going to cure any hemorrhoids.

And here there's the possibility of freezes and minor snow flurries this weekend!

Surprised Wow!  Three weeks after your statistical last day of snow!

Avatar of Cystem_Phailure

I'm not sure, but I think that date may be for measureable snow and not just observed flurries-- there needs to be at least a tenth of an inch of accumulation recorded. The ground is warm enough now that there could be some pretty good flurries in the air without any snow surviving contact with the ground.

At the moment the latest recorded snow for this winter was on April 26, when 0.2" was recorded. 0.6" was recorded the day before that. That's probably the last entry in that column for the winter, aside from maybe a "T" for trace, which means snow was observed but not in a large enough amount to be measureable.

Alright, that gives it a little more definition!

Avatar of AlCzervik

one thing i find fascinating is that the seasons are defined.

but, in some tropical climates, there is little change, if any. it seems to be only in the northern us states where there is a clear differentation.

re: my observation in #2980 that the ground is probably too warm for snow to survive-- the ground may be too warm, but a raised deck isn't!  Cool  I don't know yet whether the Soo recorded any official snowfall for last night, but I shot this pic just a few minutes ago here at the Phailure Ranch, showing a dusting of snow on the rear deck in the morning sunlight. It won't be there long (the snow, that is).

Note the birds having breakfast on the rail.

and here i thought it might be spuddie visiting.

Avatar of Cystem_Phailure

Spudz is kicking my butt once again in the Barf tourney. He's not welcome here right now.
