Obviously. They eat vegemite and marmite.

I knew there was sunlight somewhere!

It's 10°F right now in mid-afternoon. This makes 9 days since the last time the temperature was as high as the freezing point, and according to the forecast it will be at least another 4 or 5 days before we might see 32°F again.

Cystem_Phailure

Hey! It's about 10:15 p.m. here and 32.5°F . Two hours ago the temperature crept above the freezing point for the first time in more than 13 days.

The forecast indicates the temperature may soar as high as 34°F during tonight. But that's also the forecast high T for tomorrow . . .

The low temp so far this season at the Soo has been (-10)°F  [-23.3°C] , on December 13th.

Wind chill in Massachusettes tonight will reach 20 below. shock.pngsurprise.png

Cystem_Phailure

Yeah, it's a big area of the northeast under the cold spell. Today's high temperature here near the Soo was (-1)°F, and it was down to (-17)°F last night. I don't know what the wind chill was, but fortunately it's pretty calm today.

Last I looked, the high temperatures for the next 8 days are all forecast to be below 10°F here.

Here's the temperature map for about 30 minutes ago (3:30 p.m. EST). Look at all that magenta ( 10°F or lower)!

I thought this might interest you Cystem, I got it from O.D.                                                                                https://www.livescience.com/61279-moon-s-supersonic-shadow-created-waves-during-the-solar-eclipse.html?utm_source=notification

I forgot gloves walking to the store today and let me tell ya, it was nippy. But we've managed to stay in the double digits (F) which is good enough for me.

Cystem_Phailure

It's (-19)°F [-28.3°C] right now (~1:30 a.m. local). This may be the nadir-- it may warm up a few degrees before sunrise.

Destiny-- I looked up La Brevine and I see we have almost identical average annual snowfall:
La Brevine = 3.08m
Sault Ste. Marie (Michigan) = 3.06m
though you're at a higher elevation (1043m vs.183m)

Winter isn't nice to my hands anymore. I try to keep gloves on even for just walking back and forth from the truck to a store, and even then I'll get bleeding cracks on the backs of my hands if I don't remember to use lotion or cream once or twice a day in the winter. That started being a problem for me about 10 years ago.

ivandh

I drink tons of water in winter-time to keep that from happening. If I don't my skin will itch like fire after any decent exercise.

AlCzervik

beer works for me.

oh, yeah, lotion, too.

I remember when beer solved all my problems!

{sigh}

Those were the days.

This is cool-- the Grand Traverse Bay region in the Lower Peninsula has been getting 12-18 inches of lake effect snow over the past 18-24 hours, and they also got a waterspout out on the bay yesterday in the middle of the snowstorm.
