Don't know which I'd rather deal with. You can always put on another coat but you can only take off so many clothes before it becomes socially unacceptable (at least here in the States, I don't know about Australia.)
A tad chilly
Some belated greetings I see I haven't acknowledged yet:
Hi bigpoison! Hi trysts! Hi Cabadenwurt! Hi pdela! Hi AndyC!It's made it all the way to +7.4 F this afternoon. I'm back to using just my fleece hoodie again instead of the insulated coat I had to drag out for the past few days.
As long as I've seen you here you've been bundled up.

Well, sure, can't be showing myself in public, after all.
But these past couple winters I've had a little more incentive to bundle. I've got no heat in my van, and most places I go involve at least an hour of driving.
Hey, bigpoison said it was once 38 below where he lives! Has anybody ever experienced a colder temp? Naturally, me being from California, I'm a total looser at this stuff.
I don't know about Australia.
I share your puzzlement.
It's just a fabricaation to promote those penguin movies. Those are the ones with pouches, right?

Close to 0 is my record. Looser Portland had no cold chops.

Yeah, I was right.
"Montana tops the list as the most extreme weather temperature state in the United States at 187 degrees. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Montana is 117 degrees which occurred on July 5, 1937 in Medicine Lake and the coldest temperature ever recorded in Montana is -70 degrees which occurred on January 20, 1954 in Rogers Pass."

↑ A bit old and maybe unreliable.
Im in North Jersey and is 32 degrees outside...expecting a snow storm tomorrow and significant accumulations are forecast.... a foot of snow for my area....uugghhhhhh
Did the snow hit as forecasted?

Not me. My personal record low is (-36) F , at least as far as I recall.
Talk about bad timing-- do you suppose Iran is kicking themselves about the Chinese lunar rover landing at the same time they're trying to boast about their space monkey?
Still, it's not like the U.S. has the capability to launch live primates any more.

That'd sure beat one of those tiny little electric heaters that plug into the cigarette lighter.

Yeah, that's a real idea there. We don't have any mandatory emissions checks here.
I wonder if it would help defog the windshield? Not being able to see anything bothers me almost as much as not being able to shop for produce without it freezing before I get home.
You know, what really ticks me off is that I drove around for 8 months with a blown brake line and finally got the brakes fixed just before I lost the heat. What the hell's the point of having functional brakes if I can't see anyway? They serve no purpose if I don't know when to apply them.

Temperature? No. However, I have been at work where the ground temp is zero, but I'm on the 34th floor constructing a building next to Lake Michigan.
There were times when we had to, literally, stretch the extension cords.
Contrast that with the time I was working in Hawaii. The locals would come to the site in sweatshirts, and complain that I had turned on the air conditioning.
I am not sure why you guys are bitching about the cold over 'there' while here we are getting the 40C+! (104F)
