Being such a multi-national community I thought someone might know... is there a word in your language for 'the sound of rain approaching?' - I mean a single word, as opposed to this kind of English phrase...

Yes

It is

Alacurokesavulodeburnipolerashiuthom

You say this when the sky has gone darker and its gonna be rain

In a loud voice

Origin of this word was a grateful prayer of an ancient rain call ceremony

"Mauran" or "Uulan" for me.

Tagalog isnt our only language. There are multiple languages as well. Mauran is "Bicol", and the most common language  here, in Bicol, while "Uulan" is Tagalog/Filipino.

Tho it has a slightly different meaning. It means "Its going to rain".
